Greetings!

New ideas tend to spring up this time of year, so it was no surprise  that attendees at our most recent monthly Art Marketing Forum inspired us to add some new items to the roster of CAP member benefits.  Beginning this month, we're encouraging our member artists of all disciplines to let us know where you're showing your work, where you're performing, etc. If your art is being seen by the public, send us a brief email with the Where, What, When, and Who and it will be added to the "Members in the News" section at ArtsPartner.org.

You may also notice in this issue of the ArtsLetter that our "Calls for Artists" section continues to grow. If you have a regional opportunity looking for artists, be it a juried show of visual art, a casting call for an upcoming production, or a call for works of literature for a journal or publication, please let us know at least one month in advance, and we'll add it to the column here and on ArtsPartner.org.

I'm starting this issue with these two items in particular to showcase one of CAP's primary goals: to ensure our community's artists can continue to call Tompkins County home. At a time when jobs and job creation are on everyone's thoughts and lips, CAP wants to remind the public that the need for employment exists in the arts as well. Our arts community is made up of individuals. Unlike the natural resources that provide the scenic beauty of our region,  it is truly human resources that make the arts in Tompkins County so special.

Thanks for doing your part to make sure it continues to be that way!

Cheers,

Brett Bossard

This exhibit focuses on visual perception and contemplation, and is the first official venue in the Idea Enhancement project, a multi-year effort to promote innovative and creative thought through visual imagery. Visitors will be encouraged to participate by writing down their thoughts and feelings after viewing the images. These insights will then be used in the creation of new images for subsequent exhibitions. At the conclusion of this project; digital files of all the images will be made available free of charge. Please stop by and become involved in a creative movement.
FABGFine Arts Booster Group Seeks Help to Save Music Funding in Ithaca City Schools

The Ithaca Community Fine Arts Booster Group, an affiliate of  the Ithaca Public Education Initiative, has developed talking points and an online petition in response to the proposed cuts to music programming in the Ithaca City School District's budget.

The current 2010-11 budget proposal includes the elimination of elementary school band and orchestra teachers resulting in no lessons, band and orchestra.

The petition can be read and signed here. For information about cuts see the Fine Arts Booster Group fact sheet and talking points.
Spring (W)rites

SPRING (W)RITES
A constellation of events celebrating readers, writers, and book-lovers throughout the Finger Lakes!
May 7 - 9, 2010

This spring, CAP is organizing "Spring (W)rites," the inaugural Finger Lakes Literary Festival. Events for writers, readers, and book-lovers are occurring all over town at locations like the Tompkins County Public Library, Buffalo Street Books, Ithaca College, the Friends of the Library Book Sale, and more!

Thanks to support from the New York State Council on the Arts' Literature program, there will be three days of programming from May 7th to the 9th, just in time for the first weekend of the Friends of the Library Book Sale!

CAP is excited to be partnering with groups like the Wolf's Mouth Theatre Collective, Ithaca College, Cornell University, Cinemapolis, CSMA, and the Ithaca Community Orchestra to make this all possible.

The tentative schedule of events can be found at SpringWrites.org.

Businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring the event or advertising in the program guide should email Brett Bossard at director@artspartner.org or download the advertisement submission form.
