TEACHING ARTIST SYMPOSIUM

AMAZING OPPORTUNITY FOR TEACHING ARTISTS, TEACHERS and SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS

The Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County is presenting a TEACHING ARTIST SYMPOSIUM for teachers, artists and administrators in Ithaca on

then workshops through 3:30
at a location in downtown Ithaca.

A sampling of the workshop sessions:

  • Art Changing the World, by Rachel Lampert,Artistic Director of the Kitchen Theatre, will include a sliver of the acclaimed show The Soup Comes Last
  • A representative of Americans for the Arts will give a workshop on No Child Left Behind, its relationship to arts education, and what administrators, teachers, and artists can do
  • What is arts-at-the-core learning and how do I do it? 
  • How do I get my administration excited about arts-in-education
  • For Teaching artists: practices and strategies for using your craft to illuminate the academic curriculum, bring meaning to the subject, and access multiple intelligences
  • Class room management skills for even the best teachers

This event is sponsored by the New York State Council on the Arts at no cost to the participants. The symposium, part of the Southern Tier Regional Arts-in-Education Roundtable is geared towards teachers, teaching artists and administrators in NY State.  All are welcome.

Strategic Opportunity Stipends
Deadline - MAY 28, 2008

 
NYFAStrategic Opportunity Stipends (SOS), from New York Foundation for the Arts, provides grants designed to help individual artists of all disciplines take advantage of specific, unique opportunities that will significantly benefit their work or career.  These are $100-$600 grants for forthcoming opportunities that are distinct from an artist's ongoing work.  The next deadline is May 28, 2008. This deadline is for opportunities occurring between July 1 - October 31, 2008. Professional Illustrators Conference
July 20 - 26

GIATThe Guild of Natural Science Illustrators will have its annual weeklong conference at Ithaca College this year. There will be three days of presentations by professional illustrators in both digital and traditional media, with a symposium of directors (directors of the Plantations, the Lab of Ornithology, PRI/Museum of the Earth and the Sciencenter) and a showcase of art techniques. There will also be three days of workshops in different media, both traditional and digital. Read more about the conference and register through gnsifingerlakes.org.
