It seems incredible that the summer is more than halfway over, and the High Holidays are almost upon us. We all wait the whole year through for the summer to arrive, and then it seems to pass us by in a flash of vacations, day trips, camp, beach outings, and family time, all of which help us to rejuvenate and restore ourselves. August through Labor Day weekend is the last remnant of this enjoyable, lazy, hazy time and should be thoroughly enjoyed by all of us.
That being said, it is time to start thinking about your High Holiday plans. Rosh Hashanah begins this year on the evening of Sunday, September 16th and ends on the evening of Tuesday, September 18th. Yom Kippur begins on the evening of Tuesday, September 25th, and ends with Neilah services on Wednesday, September 26th. Each of our Hudson County synagogues and temples will hold services on these days, and will be giving a warm welcome to both members and non-members alike. Please be sure to visit our website at www.HudsonJewish.org as well as the individual synagogues websites (links are available on the HudsonJewish website) for specific schedule and ticket information. The High Holidays are a wonderful time to return to your current synagogue, or visit one that you have not been to before. The Boards and committees of each organization are working hard to prepare for these important days, and I can assure you that you will be met with friendly faces and enjoy a variety of beautiful and poignant services.
Please check out this month's newsletter as it includes many new events and listings that are sure to be of interest to all members of our Community. We look forward to seeing you around town at these various venues, and please be sure to introduce yourself to any of our Board members and volunteers when you see us. As always, should you wish to contact us, please write to us at Info@HudsonJewish.org .
Warmly,
Michelle Levine, Chairperson Hudson Jewish Community Forum, A New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation having 501(c)(3) status

Family Foundations and Donations Sought for PJ Library Program |
| |
HudsonJewish in partnership with United Synagogue of Hoboken, and Temple Beth-El of Jersey City is seeking information/introductions to Family Foundations and/or individuals who have a special interest in supporting Jewish education, literacy, and children's programs in Hudson County, to help fund the PJ Library program. Currently this program provides free books to over 210 children in our area, with a waiting list pending. We are now getting ready to launch a PJ Library monthly e-newsletter for participating and interested families. While we have made significant progress in growing this program in our area, the program does not charge the participating families and relies on outside donations and funding to pay the nominal cost per child for the books to be distributed. For further information on this worthwhile program, please visit their website at www.PJLibrary.org . If you or anyone you know is interested in making a contribution and sponsoring this wonderful and important project, please contact Raylie@HudsonJewish.org . |
