November 2011 Events

Dear Friends,

HudsonJewish is pleased to present the November 2011 Newsletter.  In it you will find information about Jewish goings-on in the Hudson County area, including events and milestones in the life of our growing community.  HudsonJewish highlights for November include:

- A very warm welcome to Rabbi Debra Hachen, the new spiritual leader of the historic Temple Beth-El of Jersey City.  Rabbi Hachen and her family join our community following 6 years in Closter, NJ and 24 years in Massachusetts.

- The Families With Kids (FwK) Jewish Play Group now has 30 participating families.  Events are announced via a special email to group participants.  To be added to the list, please contact Michelle Levine (Michelle@HudsonJewish.org).

- On Sunday, November 6, HudsonJewish is sponsoring a special guided tour of the Spanish-Portuguese Synagogue ("Sheareth Israel") on Central Park West and 70th Street in NYC, followed by a prix-fixe dinner at a kosher restaurant on the Upper West Side.  More information below.

- Elections for Trustees and Honorary Trustees of HudsonJewish will be held at our December Board of Trustees meeting.  If you are interested to serve, kindly email me at Adam@HudsonJewish.org for information.

Because so many new people are arriving in our community, please make sure to forward this email if you are aware of anyone who might want to get integrated into local Jewish life.  Kindly use the "forward this issue to a friend" feature near the bottom of this message.

If you would like to get involved in local Jewish life, meet other people, or just find out more, please contact us at:  Info@HudsonJewish.org.

L'hitraot,

Welcome to Rabbi Debra Hachen, New Spiritual Leader of Temple Beth-El of Jersey City!

Jersey City's historic Temple Beth-El is delighted to welcome Rabbi Debra Hachen as its new spiritual leader.

Rabbi Debra Hachen
Rabbi Debra Hachen

Rabbi Kenneth Brickman, retiring after 22 years with the Temple, will be actively working with Rabbi Hachen during her transition, and then will remain involved as TBE's Rabbi Emeritus.

Rabbi Hachen began her career as founding rabbi of a Massachusetts congregation, where she served for 24 years, growing with the synagogue through all phases, from its beginnings through maturity. She has served as rabbi for the past 6 years at Temple Beth-El in Closter, New Jersey. The vast experience that she has attained, along with her caring approach, will surely benefit TBE as it enters a new era.

Rabbi Hachen is married to Peter Weinrobe, who is the Chief Information Officer at the Union for Reform Judaism in New York City. They have three grown children, Carrie, Philip and Melissa.
