HudsonJewish Forum, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 7-10PM

On Tuesday, October 25 2011, from 7:00 to 10:00pm, the HudsonJewish Forum will convene to discuss:  "Saving the Past - A Program on the Yiddish Book Center."  Please join us for an exciting program.

Everyone in the NY area "schleps", "schmoozes" and "kvetches. We all have a "schmear" on a "bagel" and every "yenta" has some kind of "shtick." While few of us can read or speak Yiddish today, we probably knew someone who did. And we know the tales of Shalom Aleichem, I.L. Peretz, Isaac B. Singer and many other classic storytellers.  But what ever happened to those millions of Yiddish books, and why should we care?

The Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Mass. was founded only 25 years ago to rescue Yiddish and other modern Jewish books and open up their contents to the world. As the world's only comprehensive supplier of Yiddish books, the Book Center helped establish Yiddish collections at more than 600 great libraries, including Harvard, Yale, the Library of Congress, and others worldwide. Come learn more!  Join us for a wonderful film about the Yiddish Book Center (www.YiddishBookCenter.org), hear some Yiddish folk stories (in English) and learn about this great resource in Amherst, MA we can all be proud of.
