Dear Friends,
The big news this month is, of course, Passover which starts with the first seder on the evening of Monday, April 18. For anyone seeking a seder to attend six local congregations are sponsoring community celebrations: Congregation Mount Sinai (first night); United Synagogue of Hoboken (second night); Chabad of Hoboken (both nights); Temple Beth Am of Bayonne (second night); Temple Beth El of North Bergen (second night); and Temple Israel Community Center/Heichal Yisrael of Cliffside Park (second night). Attending a community seder is a great way to meet other people in the area, and to get to know the sponsoring synagogues. Information on all of these events is listed below in the calendar section of the newsletter as well as on the HudsonJewish website. Please make reservations as soon as possible to ensure accurate headcounts.
Unity and cooperation are major themes of community events this month and next. For example, Temples Beth Am and Emanu-el of Bayonne are holding a joint film festival; this month's feature is "The Year My Parents Went On Vacation," a Brazilian-Jewish work, to be shown on April 3. And next month, Congregation B'nai Jacob (Jersey City) will team up with Temple Beth-El (Jersey City) and United Synagogue of Hoboken for a joint commemoration on Holocaust Memorial Day, May 1. Finally, a dozen local and regional Jewish organizations have announced their joint sponsorship of an Israel Independence Day bash, to be held May 12, featuring the popular Israeli folk/rock group, "The Shuk." Details on all these events are provided below.
Speaking of musical events, this coming Sunday, April 3 at 2pm, Temple Beth El of North Bergen will host the renowned Columbia University Klezmer Band. Rabbi Ilan Glezer of Temple Beth El has performed and recorded with the group as a percussionist.
The calendar below includes many other events, some of them oriented toward the many young Jewish adults in our area. If you are in your 20s or 30s -- or know someone in our area who is -- be sure to check out JYAH (Jewish Young Adults of Hoboken) and Moishe House of Hoboken. Both organizations are dedicated to introducing Jewish singles to each other through educational and social activities.
HudsonJewish relies on word of mouth to let people know about our organization and the Jewish community we serve. Please feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone who might be interested, using the "Forward this issue to a friend" button at the bottom of the page. And of course, encourage them to sign up for the newsletter on the HudsonJewish.org website.
May we all enjoy a sweet and happy Passover! L'hitraot and Chag Sameach, Adam S. Weiss Chairman, HudsonJewish
