Save the Date! Hudson County Synagogue Architectural Tour, Sunday October 17th
| | Save the Date! On Sunday, October 17, HudsonJewish will be sponsoring an architectural tour of local landmark synagogues. Buses will carry participants to the synagogues, where members will act as docents, describing the history, culture, and architectural features of each one. This event is sure to appeal to all interests, as well as provide a guide to anyone considering joining a local synagogue. Time and price TBD. | HudsonJewish "Salon" Moves Outdoors for the Summer. Next Meeting Wednesday, July 14th, 6:30PM | | |
The HudsonJewish "Salon" moved outdoors in June. Here's the view everyone enjoyed: 
The next Salon will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 6:30PM in Peninsula Park by the Korean War Memorial at the south end of Washington Street in Jersey City. Shed your jacket, pack a brown-bag dinner, and bring a dessert to share with the group. Kids, dogs and frisbees welcome! We promise beautiful views, good conversations and a different perspective on a summer evening.
There is no set agenda, but in honor of Bastille Day, HudsonJewish Trustee Raylie Dunkel has volunteered to lead the group in a discussion on the topic: "The French Revolution in Historical Perspective: Good for the Jews?" For more information contact HudsonJewish Trustee Burt Gitlin: Burt@HudsonJewish.org. PS. Mark your calendars now for the August Salon: Wednesday, August 11th, 6:30 in Peninsula Park. PPS. | Join HudsonJewish and Congregation B'nai Jacob in Service to Jersey City Shelter, Sunday, July 11 | | |
Join HudsonJewish and Congregation B'nai Jacob on Sunday, July 11, 11AM as we prepare and then deliver food to Saint Lucy's Shelter in Jersey City. Saint Lucy's is a supervised, 24-hour, 7-day/week, year-round emergency shelter facility for women and men offering emergency housing and food for those in need. We will be making sandwiches at the synagogue and then serving them to the 60-80 residents that the shelter feeds daily. Congregation B'nai Jacob is located at 176 West Side Avenue in Jersey City. United Synagogue of Hoboken Sponsors "A Beginner's Guide to Israeli History and Politics"

| Starting Wednesday, June 30, USH begins a new 4-part class entitled "A Beginner's Guide to Israeli History and Politics". Get up to speed on the Knesset, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and various issues of concern to those who support Israel. Taught by USH alumni member David Suskauer, director of North American operations for Nefesh B'Nefesh, the program meets Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9PM. Topics are:
June 30: Setting the Scene: Zionism and the establishment of Israel July 7: Knesset 101: Israeli Politics July 14: The Arab-Israeli conflict, Part 1 July 21: The Arab-Israeli conflict, Part 2

Informal, Down-to-Earth, English-language Weekly Torah Study in North Bergen, Thursdays at 8PM

| Thursdays at 8PM join members of the Jewish community in North Bergen for a weekly Torah shiur (study session) with the insightful discussion leader, rabbinical student Simcha Schwartz. Each session is devoted to the week's Torah portion. The format is a discussion, not a lecture, and is designed to connect the Torah narrative with learnings in ethics, philosophy and contemporary issues. All sessions are in English.

Congregation Shaare Zedek Prepares for its Centennial; Seeks Photographer, Historian/Researcher

| The venerable West New York synagogue, Shaare Zedek will celebrate its centennial next year and seeks talented assistance in preparing a history of the congregation. Noted for its domed, marble-clad sanctuary, the synagogue seeks a photographer and a researcher/writer/historian to prepare a history of the organization and community. Return =other side of park- to JC and escort the Hoboken contingent along waterfront to Newport.
Saturday, July 10th, 10:00 PM: Moishe House Wine Taste Test. We will be testing evreyones like and dislike of yayin tovim! That means (yes you guessed it) wine drinkin! So bring yourself, a good attitude, grab a hebro or hebra, and feel free to bring a bottle of wine (totally not required though), and joine everyone for some good libations.

Monday, July 12th, 6:30-8 PM: Visit to homeless shelter. Join Moishe House and the United Synagogue of Hoboken as they visit the homeless shelter on the second Monday of each month. Come help those less fortunate, and make some new friends!

We will also be saying shalom, peace out, farewell, and goodbye to the sabbath with havdalah and we are throwing in some Jewish thinking and discussion to boot - 3 for the price or one! We will also be honoring the retiring President of our Congregation, Albert Bousso. There will be Door Prizes & Raffles! Cost is $20 per person (same as last year). You will be joining a dedicated and capable group of volunteers to serve a growing community that depends on HudsonJewish for information and connection to other Jews in the vicinity.
