Message from the Chairman
Dear Friends,
First, let me wish everyone a joyous Passover. HudsonJewish has already matched a few "need a place for the holidays" people with local families and we plan to continue the program next year.
March's "Jewish Speed Dating" event was very successful with approximately a dozen people of each gender participating. This is another program we hope to continue.
Another successful program is the HudsonJewish Social/Intellectual Salon. We've been getting 15-20 people and look forward to even greater participation as word of this program spreads in the months ahead. See below for more detail.
The April calendar below is full of events, many of them for younger people, so if you fit that category or know people who do, please spread the word. The calendar also includes events of general interest, such as the Holocaust program sponsored by the Jersey City Public Schools.
Warm wishes for a Chag Kasher v'Sameach,
Adam S. Weiss, Chairman, HudsonJewishAdam@HudsonJewish.org |

Holocaust Memorial and Program with the Jersey City Public Schools
| |
|
On Tuesday, April 27, the Jersey City Public Schools will present a program devoted to the experience of several of its students who studied the Holocaust as part of their curriculum and visited sites in Eastern Europe recently. HudsonJewish is pleased that this program exists in Jersey City -- a remarkably diverse city with a growing Jewish population. The event will take place at the Bright Middle School (Bright Avenue in Jersey City) and be presented by June Chang, a Korean-American school official who is the driving force behind the program. More details will follow, so please check www.HudsonJewish.org for further information as the time draws nearer. |

Over 160 people attended the Casino Night sponsored
by United Synagogue of Hoboken on March 13 at the Hoboken Elks Club.
Participants enjoyed food, live music and traditional table games such as poker, blackjack,
roulette and craps -- with chips redeemable for prizes instead of money.
Proceeds
of the event went to United Synagogue of Hoboken, the interfaith
Hoboken Homeless Shelter and the Jubilee Center, which provides a wide
array of programs for underprivileged youth.

Jewish Summer Camp Stipends Available
|
|
UJA Federation of Northern New Jersey, in
partnership with the Foundation for Jewish Camp, is offering $1,000 incentive camperships to
first-time campers at Jewish overnight camps.
Attending
an overnight Jewish camp is one of the most powerful ways to build Jewish
identity and commitment in young people. At camp, Jewish values,
connection to Israel, and the culture of Judaism are incorporated into every
aspect of daily activity in a warm, fun, and nurturing environment.
Eligibility: students who will be enrolled in a
minimum three-week overnight camp run by a not-for-profit Jewish organization are eligible. Only students who attend public or secular private schools are eligible.
If a camper was previously enrolled in a Jewish overnight camp of less than
three weeks or went to a non-Jewish camp, s/he is still eligible.

more information contact Frieda Hershman
Huberman at UJA Federation of Northern New Jersey. (201-820-3913 or 3914) Additional information and online application

volunteers delivered the packages and spent some time chatting with the
elderly.

Old Bay in New Brunswick. Piper Huggins, Executive Director of SAVE: A
Friend to Homeless Animals, an animal shelter located in Princeton, will
have details about volunteer
opportunities and how to sponsor or adopt a pet. Maoz Vegetarian, a new felafel
restaurant on Church Street in New Brunswick, will be raffling off a
gift card to a lucky Jersey Triber.
Jersey Tribe members range in age from 22 to 40 (give or take a year
or
two), have diverse Jewish backgrounds, come from towns across northern
and central New Jersey
and are a mix of singles, couples and marrieds. We typically have two
