Chairman's Message

Dear Friends,

HudsonJewish is now well into its third year.  From an informal gathering of community leaders in April 2007, to our incorporation in December 2008, to our recent receipt of 501(c)(3) status, HudsonJewish has made substantial progress in providing useful information to the local Jewish community and knitting together its disparate segments, from Bayonne to North Bergen and from Reform to Orthodox to none-of-the-above.  We may not all agree on everything, but we are all Jews, and HudsonJewish seeks to live up to its motto:  "Connecting Our Community."

Now that most of our "infrastructure" is in place -- most importantly, this newsletter (which now goes out to almost 1,700 people representing perhaps 1/3 of all local Jewish households) -- we now seek volunteers to help with the more enjoyable aspects of building a community:  organizing events and programs of interest to all ages and perspectives.  From promoting an informal Jewish bicycling group, to running a social/intellectual "Jewish Salon" in Jersey City, HudsonJewish seeks to create an environment where all Jews can find a place.  We hope that our efforts help you find yours.

L'hitraot,
Adam

Adam S. Weiss, Chairman
HudsonJewish Community Forum, A New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation having 501(c)(3) status

PS.  HudsonJewish extends a hearty Mazal Tov to Rabbi Gordon Gladstone of Temple Beth Am of Bayonne, who is celebrating his 25th year of service to the entire community!

Jewish Social/Intellectual "Salon" in Downtown JC, 6/10

The first in a series of Jewish Salons will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, 7:30-9:30PM at the CASE Museum, 80 Grand Street (corner of Grand and Washington) in downtown Jersey City.  The first evening's topic will be "What does it mean to be Jewish:  Here and Now?"  The evening will include discussion and socializing with like-minded Jews (and non-Jews) from across Hudson County.  The intention is to make the Salon a permanent feature of Jewish social and intellectual life in the region.  All are welcome, and encouraged (but not required) to RSVP.

For more information or to RSVP contact the event organizer and HudsonJewish Trustee Raylie Dunkel:  Raylie@HudsonJewish.org.

PS.  Volunteers to serve on the HudsonJewish Program Committee should also contact Raylie.
