3rd Berkshire Election: Write In Mark Jester!
| |
Special Election Alert!
Dear GOAL member,
Due to the resignation of Representative Christopher Speranzo, there will be a special election for the 3rd Berkshire District on October 18, 2011.
The primary election will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Republican Mark Jester (rated 100% by GOAL), a longtime member of GOAL, second amendment rights supporter, and President of the Berkshire County League of Sportsmen is running for this seat.
Since Mark's name will NOT appear on the special election ballot on September 20, 2011, he will need to be a "write-in candidate." If he does not receive enough write-in votes, he will not be a candidate in the state election on October 18, 2011.
All write-in votes should include the correct name and address of the candidate. Courts have ruled that a vote should be counted whenever the intent of the voter can reasonably be determined, even if a voter omits the candidate's address or makes a mistake in the name or address. Please note that write-in votes are counted for the office where the name is written. For example, if the candidate is running as a write in candidate for state representative, but you write the candidate's name under school committee, they will receive a vote for school committee.
To protect your rights, and assure his name appear on the state election ballot, we ask that you support Mark Jester by writing his name on the ballot, getting him one step closer to being elected as your new State Representative!

12th Bristol House District: Please Support Keiko Orrall
| |
Special Election Alert!
Dear GOAL member,
Due to the resignation of Representative Stephen Canessa, there will be a special election on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 to fill this vacant seat in the 12th Bristol District.
Keiko Orrall is running for election to become your next State Representative. Based on her response to GOAL's two-page questionnaire, she was rated 100%.
Keiko indicated her staunch support of our second amendment rights and does not support any additional gun bans or restrictions on lawful gun owners. She understands that a citizen's rights must be supported at all levels of government, from the local to the national.
We hope you found this information helpful. The election is Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Please go to the polls and support the candidate who will support your civil rights. |
N.H. House Override's Veto on Self-Defense Bill
| |
From the NRA: GOAL would like to congratulate the citizens of N.H. on this landmark legislative victory, here's to hoping that MA. follows suit.
| Wednesday, September 14, 2011 | | | |
Today, in a surprise move by the state House Leadership, Senate Bill 88 was brought up for a vote. The state House voted to override the Governor's veto of SB 88 by a 251 to 111 vote. Last week, the state Senate overrode the Governor's veto by a 17 to 7 vote. SB 88 is now law and will go into effect in sixty days.
Senate Bill 88 would restore the right of self-defense in New Hampshire and establish that the law-abiding have the right to defend themselves from assault wherever they have a legal right to be when they believe there is an imminent threat to their life and well being.
On July 13, Governor John Lynch vetoed this common-sense legislation that 28 states across the country have enacted with broad bipartisan support. SB 88 originally passed overwhelmingly in both chambers - in the state House by a 283 to 89 vote and in the state Senate by a 19 to 5 vote.
Thank you to everyone who contacted their elected officials in support of this important self-defense legislation.

| MA DFW Has Range Grants Available | The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (DFW) receives over $2.3 million annually in reimbursement grants pursuant to the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937 (commonly referred to as the Pittman-Robertson Act.) Monies available for reimbursement are derived from federal excise taxes on sporting arms, ammunition, and equipment paid by licensed hunters and shooters. The act authorizes, allows, and encourages the expenditure of such federal reimbursement grants for wildlife-associated outdoor recreation projects, including hunter education programs, and the construction, operation, and maintenance of public target and shooting ranges.
