GOAL's "Freedom Rising" Banquet
| Saturday June 18th Boxborough, MA
Let's face it, Massachusetts, once a cradle of democracy has become something that the founding fathers would find unrecognizable. That doesn't stop GOAL or our members and we gathered on a warm summer night to celebrate Freedom Rising.
The ground swell, emanating from the core members and out through the social media waves of the internet is spreading, and the core members of Gun Owners' Action League joined together to learn more, get charged up, and to continue in the fight to resurrect freedom and our Second Amendment rights.
There were raffles, and auctions, awards and speakers, dinner with friends, airguns to shoot, and people to meet. The night started off, for those that chose, at the Presidents reception with a chance to mingle with many of the GOAL board of directors, and our special guests Executive V.P. of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre, and NRA Radio personality Cam Edwards. Later it was on to the great room for some mingling, or perhaps a chance to take on one of the members of the MA Junior Air Pistol team in a target shooting competition, many member lost, those kids are good!

H.2400 An Act Relative to Youth Hunting Programs
The main purpose of the bill is that youth hunters have been trapped by a law that does not allow them to apply for a license until they reach age 15. Many youths have lost entire hunting seasons waiting for the licensing process.
6/23/11 Update: At an executive session of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security the bill was released favorably. The bill was then sent to the House Committee on Ways and Means for consideration. At the same time during the Senate budget debate the fees for under 18 FID cards were reduced to $25. It would not be surprising if this was the amount that the House would also use if they move on the bill. We would ask all of our members to contact the House Ways and Means Committee and ask them to release H.2400 with a favorable report. We would like to see this bill acted on prior to the next hunting season.

e-FA-10 Issue Update
| June 22, 2011 Update:
We had a chance to review the new system and found many more concerns. What should have been a simple electronic version of the FA-10 form turned out to be an entire new website designed to gather information on lawful gun owners. As we reviewed the site, we quickly made a list of concerns:
There is no Massachusetts law that allows the state to create a database on firearms.
It is a common myth that gun registration is mandatory in Massachusetts. In fact, there is no such law that allows any agency to create a database on the private possession of firearms. There is transfer reporting law, but that is only so the state can make sure you have the correct license for the gun you have purchased.
