Thank You from GOAL!
For many, the holiday season is a time for reflection. As Christmas and the New Year draw near, we would like to take a minute to reflect upon the past year and thank our members for all of the hard work and support that was offered in 2010.

During this past year we fought hard and well, defeating Governor Patrick's H. 4102 "Lawful Citizens Imprisonment" Act, and for the passing of our own H.2259 "Civil Rights and Public Safety" bill. For most of the legislative season our lawmakers were tied up with the Casino Bill. This worked both for and against us, for, because this in conjunction with our members efforts played a major part in their not being able to pass H.4102, and against because we were not able to get H.2259 out of committee.

One thing is for certain though, Governor Patrick constantly blamed the efforts of our members for ensuring that his misguided legislation would not become law in 2010, and for that we say thank you!

On the good news front, we rejoiced at the great news from our Supreme Court with the McDonald decision in which the Second Amendment was finally recognized as a civil right. This will lead to many more court battles at all levels, and is the beginning of the end for those that would strip us of our most cherished civil right.

We had some great times with our Crushing Clays Junior Trap Championship, our GOAL Cup events, the first annual GOAL "Shoot-B-Q" and thoroughly enjoyed hosting many classes and events at our office!

Some friends passed that we would also be remiss not to mention, John Kelly friend of many competitors, Mickey Emery who worked tirelessly with disabled veterans, and Donn DiBiasio who was a former NRA board member that worked for over 50 years protecting our civil rights.

2011 looks to be busier than ever. We will be filing the revised version of our Civil Rights and Public Safety bill along with many other pieces of legislation. We will also wind up playing defense at some point or another, but are confident that with your help we will be able to overcome any future anti civil rights legislation. We also look forward to re-visiting our events, competitions, and hosting a new slew of classes for the experienced and new gun owner alike.

Without you, our members, none of what we do would be possible. We would like to once again extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for the support, activism, and awareness that you all display, time and time again.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year all!

The GOAL Staff.

GOAL Holiday Toy Drive a Great Success!

GOAL Executive Director Jim Wallace thanks GOAL Member David MacIntosh for his generous work in organizing a collection, and shopping for an entire car load of toys for our Holiday Toy Drive! Thanks so much David!
When all was said and done we delivered almost an entire pick up truck full of toys to the MA N.G. 164th Transportation BN.

On delivery day I was greeted at the Framingham Armory by Sgt Everson who was astounded by the generosity of our membership, and the amount of toys delivered.  She asked me to personally thank each and every one of you that made this the great success it was.

The soldiers of the 164th are due home from the Mid-East on Christmas Eve, it was a great feeling to know that we helped make their Christmas just a bit merrier!

To those of you that donated, thank you again and great job!  We look forward to doing this again next year!

Freedom Needs Your Help!
Deval on NECN

Freedom needs your help!

As you all know, over the past few years we have won two major cases at the United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS) Heller v. Washington D.C. and most recently McDonald v. Chicago.

These landmark victories in court have laid down a foundation to build upon.

GOAL is already building and we need your help!  Just last week GOAL filed a friend of the court brief in Commonwealth v. Powell (see story below) and the fight continues.  With many new case law battles and litigation suits just beginning, GOAL is in the front lines once again fighting for your freedom.  These fights are not cheap and sometimes cost us thousands of dollars per case.  With your help we can win.

Please consider making a donation to GOAL and helping us take the fight to those that would take away our Civil Rights Freedoms.

Donating has never been easier, if you would like to donate online, go to http://www.shop.goal.org/product.sc?productId=4&categoryId=1 and follow the instructions.

Or you can send a check to;

Jim Wallace To Run For NRA Board!
Deval on NECN GOAL is pleased to announce that Executive Director Jim Wallace has been written onto the NRA Board of Directors Ballot by the NRA Nominating Committee.

Jim would like to thank everyone that signed his petition for nomination, and also all that reached out to the NRA on his behalf.

Voting for board members will take place later this year.  Jim would like to ask all of our members that are eligible to vote, for their vote, and would like to ensure all that this will in no way hinder his performance as Executive Director of GOAL, if anything, this will enhance GOAL's ability to fight for the civil rights of all Massachusetts gun owners.

Look for more information on this in the weeks to come, and thank you all!

For more information about Jim, please check out his new website!

AUTUMN OUTDOOR SAFETY TIPS

Fall is a wonderful time to be outdoors, with its dazzling colors, crisp air, and wildlife activity galore. Whether your passion is hiking, hunting, fishing, birding, or just taking in the scenery, a few commonsense safety reminders will add to your enjoyment during your days in the field.

· Know your limits. Don't take off on a long hike, hunt, or bike ride if you're not physically ready.

· Always tell someone where you're going and when you expect to return.

· Watch the weather. New England weather is notorious changeable. Be ready with extra clothing.

· Expect the unexpected. Carrying a fanny pack with a few first aid items, matches, water, pocket knife, cell phone, map, compass, whistle, extra food, and flashlight can help prevent small problems from becoming big ones.

· Wear blaze orange for visibility. Whether you're a hunter, hiker, birder, or dog walker in rural areas, it's a good idea to wear a cap or vest of highly visible blaze orange clothing while you're enjoying the great outdoors.

· Respect the water. Canoeists and kayakers are required to wear life jackets from September 15 to May 15, but all water enthusiasts, especially anglers who wade in larger rivers, would be wise to wear flotation devices now that water and air temperatures are cooling.

· Respect other outdoor users. Mountain biking, horseback riding, wildlife watching, hunting, and hiking need not be and are not mutually exclusive activities. Know the hunting seasons and who is likely to be sharing the woods and waters with you. Keep dogs under direct control and respect other outdoor users' rights to enjoy our open spaces.

· Finally, licensed hunters are reminded to take the basics of hunter safety to heart. Treat every firearm as it were loaded, keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction at all times. Positively identify your target and what lies beyond it.
