- GOAL Shoot-B-Q a Tremendous Success! Approximately 100 GOAL members gathered for a great day of "Firearms, Food, and Fun" and we couldn't have asked for better weather, a nicer venue, or better food.
- Police Charge 5 Legal Open Carry Citizens in WI - Victims need your support! This, unfortunately, did not prevent the Madison police department from overreacting by sending eight officers to Culvers to harass the law abiding citizens. Realizing their mistake, Madison dismissed the two original charges filed, and instead charged all five citizens with bogus charges of disorderly conduct designed to intimidate the citizens.
- "Nice try but No Cigar" for Brady Campaign's Paul Helmke There are more Americans owning more guns than ever before and, as we both agree, violent crime is way, way, down.
-
NRA Political Victory Fund supports Jeff Perry for Congress "Jeff Perry's strong commitment to preserving our hunting and shooting heritage has earned him the NRA-PVF's endorsement," said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. "Jeff was a proven leader on gun owners' and sportsmen's rights in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and I know he will continue to fight for and protect the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding gun owners at the federal level."

Bloomberg further disgraces himself with latest anti-gun pitch. Bloomberg revisited his perennial cause célèbre -gun control-because his anti-gun group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), has issued an Issue Brief urging Congress to "close the gun show loophole"-gun control supporters' Orwellian "doublespeak" for "prohibit private sales of firearms at gun shows and everywhere else."

-
- NRA backed measure signed into law by President Obama. Last week, the NRA-backed "Firearms Excise Tax Improvement Act of 2010" (H.R. 5552) was signed into law.
-
Federal Legislation Round-up. Both houses of Congress have adjourned for their "Summer District Work Period," and there are two issues pending in Congress that require your immediate action to lobby your Senators and Congressman while back in their homestate for the next month.
-
NRA will NOT endorse NV Senator Harry Reid. After careful consideration, the NRA-PVF announced today that it will not be endorsing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for re-election in the 2010 U.S. Senate race in Nevada.
-
NRA defeats petition to ban lead ammunition. "It's outrageous that this petition even went this far," said Chris W. Cox, NRA-ILA Executive Director. "We applaud the EPA for its understanding of the law and its common sense in this situation -- both of which were totally missing in the petition filed by these extreme anti-gun and anti-hunting groups."

- Check out NRA's National Firearms Museum online! For those of us that haven't had the opportunity to visit in person, lots of great stuff to check out online.

Showtime again.
| Volunteers Needed for the Topsfield Fair Each year, GOAL is fortunate enough to be provided a booth at the Topsfield Fair. Our booth is located in the Sportsman's Building, and is provided courtesy of the Essex County League of Sportsmen.
Exposure at the Fair gives GOAL the opportunity to talk with thousands of attendees. Some are familiar with GOAL and our members. Others we talk with have no knowledge of firearms and their many purposes.
With limited office staff, GOAL depends on volunteers to help us at this Fair. This year the Fair will be held from October 1-11, open from 10am to 10pm. GOAL usually sets up four-hour shifts for volunteers.
If you can help us, please call 508.393.5333. ext.206.

Jim Wallace To Run For NRA Board!
| GOAL is pleased to announce that Executive Director Jim Wallace has been written onto the NRA Board of Directors Ballot by the NRA Nominating Committee.
Jim would like to thank everyone that signed his petition for nomination, and also all that reached out to the NRA on his behalf.
Voting for board members will take place later this year. Jim would like to ask all of our members that are eligible to vote, for their vote, and would like to ensure all that this will in no way hinder his performance as Executive Director of GOAL, if anything, this will enhance GOAL's ability to fight for the civil rights of all Massachusetts gun owners.
Look for more information on this in the weeks to come, and thank you all!

We need help with Candidates!
|
Help us, help you, make great decisions on election day!
One of the fantastic after effects of Scott Brown being elected is a new resurgence of people that are willing to not only get involved by working for campaigns, but also to run for office.
There are more new candidates running for office this November within Massachusetts than we can recall seeing for a long time. In order to sort through them we are asking for some help. If you are a candidate for a county, state, or national office, or if you know or work for a candidate, please ask them to fill out one of our new candidate questionnaires.
This will give us a great read on how much a candidate knows, and cares about Second Amendment Issues. After completing we will grade the questionnaire and post that grade on our Candidate Ratings Pages. (See below) *Note: The U.S. Congress ratings are courtesy of the NRA. Also note that ALL of our current incumbents up for re-election have an "F" grade.
