Dem's "Lock N Load" to gain votes from "gun rights" groups With
the mid-terms looming large in a year where incumbents are expected
to take a beating at the polls many Democratic candidates are favoring
gun rights, aiming to win endorsements or positive ratings from pro-2nd
amendment groups.
-
- "Citizen's for Safety" video about H.4102. "There's
a video on Youtube by Citizens for Safety featuring James Mathes and a
young woman attempting to dupe the public into believing they are
speaking on behalf of all hunters and gun owners."
-
FID/LTC Permits issued down in MA this year?
The number of gun permits issued locally and statewide in 2009 was
roughly one-third the total granted two years earlier, but the dramatic
figures may not add up to much, police, activists and business owners
say.
Argument against proposed "Gun Bill" - Yes
folks, it's true. Governor Deval Patrick is pushing his
one-gun-a-month bill again, known as House Bill H4102, which would
imprison lawfully-licensed citizens for purchasing more than one gun in a
30-day period.
Five Gun Salute, the High Court's four liberals are
holding out to overturn Heller this suggests that the
liberals have decided to bide their time and wait for a fifth vote so
they can overturn both Heller and McDonald. This means that the matter
of Second Amendment rights is far from settled, and the National
Rifle Association and other advocates had better keep their legal
guard up. - More video! from WGBH, Rep George Peterson and Rep David Lynsky discuss both sides of the "Lawful Citizens Imprisonment Act" proposed by Governor Patrick. (Scroll down to June 30th story)

A few hours left in the legislative season H.4102/2259
|
Time is winding down, still no news on H.4102./H.2259 As of Friday July 23, 2010 the Massachusetts Legislature has only a few hours left of "formal
session". Traditionally the last week of the session is a whirlwind of legislation.
The last few days often go late into the night as legislative leaders rush to
get out bills before the end. This is when we must be on our guard even more
than usual as bills could be gaveled through at 1:00 in the morning.
The formal
session ends officially on Saturday, July 31st after which it is
doubtful that any controversial matters will be taken up. With very little time
left, there are two major items we still have to deal with.
The first is
the real threat to our civil rights via the Governor's bill H.4102 "The Lawful
Citizens Imprisonment and Profiling Act." This bill was released favorably by
the Joint Committee on the Judiciary. The bill currently resides in the House
Committee on Ways & Means. The Committee Chair conducted a "pre-poll" of
the members over a week ago, but no official action has been taken since then. There
has been no further word if H.4102 will come to the floor for a vote, but it is
clear that it still remains one of the Governor's priorities. Knowing that, we
must be on guard in these last few hours.
The other
bill is GOAL's "Civil Rights and Public Safety Act", H.2259. That bill still
remains in the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security. With
less than a week left we must reluctantly come to the conclusion that the
legislature is not going to take up the bill. There is always a chance that they
will, but that chance becomes slimmer with each passing day. The good news is
that many legislators outside of our normal circle of supporters are regularly
talking about the bill in a positive way. That is clearly a result of the
education our members have been providing to their local legislators.
GOAL members
have proven time and again that they can respond to a legislative alert very
quickly. As we enter into this last week, we would urge all of our members to
stand by for any potential alerts.

We need help with Candidates!
|
Help us, help you, make great decisions on election day!
One of the fantastic after effects of Scott Brown being elected is a new resurgence of people that are willing to not only get involved by working for campaigns, but also to run for office.
There are more new candidates running for office this November within Massachusetts than we can recall seeing for a long time. In order to sort through them we are asking for some help. If you are a candidate for a county, state, or national office, or if you know or work for a candidate, please ask them to fill out one of our new candidate questionnaires.
This will give us a great read on how much a candidate knows, and cares about Second Amendment Issues. After completing we will grade the questionnaire and post that grade on our Candidate Ratings Pages. (See below) *Note: The U.S. Congress ratings are courtesy of the NRA. Also note that ALL of our current incumbents up for re-election have an "F" grade.
