FID/LTC Permits issued down in MA this year?
The number of gun permits issued locally and statewide in 2009 was
roughly one-third the total granted two years earlier, but the dramatic
figures may not add up to much, police, activists and business owners
say.
Argument against proposed "Gun Bill" - Yes
folks, it's true. Governor Deval Patrick is pushing his
one-gun-a-month bill again, known as House Bill H4102, which would
imprison lawfully-licensed citizens for purchasing more than one gun in a
30-day period.
Five Gun Salute, the High Court's four liberals are
holding out to overturn Heller this suggests that the
liberals have decided to bide their time and wait for a fifth vote so
they can overturn both Heller and McDonald. This means that the matter
of Second Amendment rights is far from settled, and the National
Rifle Association and other advocates had better keep their legal
guard up. - More video! from WGBH, Rep George Peterson and Rep David Lynsky discuss both sides of the "Lawful Citizens Imprisonment Act" proposed by Governor Patrick. (Scroll down to June 30th story)

Guns Save Lives The
National Academy of Sciences reviewed dozens of studies and could not
find a single gun regulation that clearly led to reduced violent
crime or murder.

H.4102 "Lawful Citizens Imprisonment Act" still in play.
| Update on H.4102 The Governor's "Lawful Citizen Imprisonment and Profiling
Act" is still in the House Committee on Ways & Means. To our knowledge they
have not conducted a formal poll of the committee members in an attempt to
release the bill to the House floor for a vote. We can tell you that the House
leadership has been unofficially surveying the committee members to get a
better sense of how an official poll might go.
With only two weeks left in the session it is clear that
this bill is a major priority for the Governor. It is likely that during the
fast paced end of session days that H.4102 will most likely come out of
committee with little or no notice. Our members need to keep in touch with
their State Representatives and remind them that you oppose all parts of the
Governor's "Lawful Citizen Imprisonment and Profiling Act". Ask them to focus
on reforming the laws by passing H.2259, "The Civil Rights and Public Safety
Act". Action: Please call the House Ways and Means Committee members and urge
them not to support the Governor's "Lawful Citizens Imprisonment Act"
and instead, support GOAL's Bill, H.2259. Click here for contact information of the House Ways and Means Committee Action: Please
contact your State Representative and urge them to contact
the Committee Members with the same message.

Senator Click here to download talking points comparing
H.4102 & H.2259
We will continue to follow this bill and will keep our members
updated on the status as more information becomes available. For more information, click here to go to the GOAL web page about this bill

House
Passes Wind Siting Bill
|
For two days, July 13 & 14, the
Massachusetts House of Representatives debated the Wind Energy Citing
bill. Sadly on the second day the industry won and the environment and
the citizens of the Commonwealth lost. In a vote of 101 to 52 the House
sent a slightly different version back to the Senate. I cannot
accurately tell our members what changes took place since no one in the
House could explain the amended bill in any detail as it was being
voted on.
Sportsmen/women and the smaller
environmental organizations can hold their heads high for a battle well
fought. We all worked together to make sure the work of the past
century to protect wildlife habitat was not lost. Unfortunately, the
bill to allow the state to force wind energy siting on local
communities was a top priority of the Governor and his Secretary of
Energy and Environmental Affairs. This is the price we have paid for
the Governor merging the interests of the energy industry with the
State's environmental agency.
Sadder still is that the so-called
statewide environmental groups eagerly lobbied in favor of the bill.
This gave the proponents for industry all the political cover they
needed to trample on our rights and our natural heritage. It still never
ceases to amaze me what our government is willing to destroy in the
name of so-called global warming.
The bill will now go back to the
Senate, then if they concur and do not want to make any changes, on to the governor where it will
be signed into law.

GOAL's Executive Director to Run for NRA Board
|
Let's get one of our own on the board!
Jim Wallace, Executive Director of Gun Owners' Action League is
announcing his intention to run for the Board of Directors of the
National Rifle Association.
"I have spent nearly ten years now professionally representing the
interests of lawful gun owners and sportsmen in Massachusetts in what is
certainly a Second Amendment battle ground state," said Jim Wallace.
"In that time I believe I have gained the knowledge and experience that
could be of value to the NRA on the national front."
For those who would like to support Jim in his campaign for NRA Board of
Directors there are nomination forms in this month's NRA magazines. The
deadline for submission is on the form. For the information needed to
fill out the form, please email Jim at: jimwallace@goal.org.

We need help with Candidates!
|
Help us, help you, make great decisions on election day!
One of the fantastic after effects of Scott Brown being elected is a new resurgence of people that are willing to not only get involved by working for campaigns, but also to run for office.
There are more new candidates running for office this November within Massachusetts than we can recall seeing for a long time. In order to sort through them we are asking for some help. If you are a candidate for a county, state, or national office, or if you know or work for a candidate, please ask them to fill out one of our new candidate questionnaires.
This will give us a great read on how much a candidate knows, and cares about Second Amendment Issues. After completing we will grade the questionnaire and post that grade on our Candidate Ratings Pages. (See below) *Note: The U.S. Congress ratings are courtesy of the NRA. Also note that ALL of our current incumbents up for re-election have an "F" grade.
