- GOAL Video News Friday July 2, 2010 Special 2 part McDonald v. Chicago edition discussing the landmark decision and it's impact on MA. precedent.
Five Gun Salute, the High Court's four liberals are
holding out to overturn Heller this suggests that the
liberals have decided to bide their time and wait for a fifth vote so
they can overturn both Heller and McDonald. This means that the matter
of Second Amendment rights is far from settled, and the National
Rifle Association and other advocates had better keep their legal
guard up. - More video! from WGBH, Rep George Peterson and Rep David Lynsky discuss both sides of the "Lawful Citizens Imprisonment Act" proposed by Governor Patrick. (Scroll down to June 30th story)
Argument against proposed "Gun Bill" - Yes
folks, it's true. Governor Deval Patrick is pushing his
one-gun-a-month bill again, known as House Bill H4102, which would
imprison lawfully-licensed citizens for purchasing more than one gun in a
30-day period. -
Guns Save Lives The
National Academy of Sciences reviewed dozens of studies and could not
find a single gun regulation that clearly led to reduced violent
crime or murder.

Lawmakers' snafu delays vote on Gov. Patrick gun
bill A botched legislative vote today on Gov. Deval Patrick's
gun crackdown in the Bay State means the bill is on hold once again. Governor Patrick blames GOAL (again) for holding up his unconstitutional legislation."We haven't
got any tools in place in terms of how we control the flow of illegal
guns, how we deal with these dangerousness hearings, which is something
we have proposed, for people who commit crimes using a gun...and the gun
lobby is so prominent, so present up on Beacon Hill that we can't even
have a conversation about it, a serious debate in the legislature about
it and that bothers me..." Victory again! 5/27/10 CORI Bill H. 4703, Proposed Anti Civil Rights
Amendments defeated at State House
DEVAL PATRICK BLAMES GOAL FOR LACK OF PROGRESS ON GUN BILL Gov.
Deval Patrick blamed firearms lobbyists Monday for his gun control
legislation's lack of progress amid another murder of a child over the
weekend, drawing a quick rebuke from the Gun Owners Action League, who
called Patrick's bill flawed and ineffective - Read more Local stories on goalnews.org-local here

McDonald v. Chicago. Civil Rights Prevail!
|
Statement from GOAL Executive Director Jim Wallace.
Second Amendment IS a Civil Right
On Monday, June 28, 2010 the Supreme Court
of the United States released a landmark civil rights decision in the
case of McDonald
v. City of Chicago. In the 5 - 4 ruling the Court's
decision was very simple, "...we hold that the Second Amendment right is
fully applicable to the states. We therefore hold that the Due Process
Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment incorporates the Second Amendment
right recognized in Heller." "The citizens of Massachusetts should all be
joining together in celebration over this ruling," said Jim Wallace
Executive Director of Gun Owners' Action League. "Both the lawful gun
owner and those living in high crime areas will finally get relief from
the misguided laws and policies regarding firearms in Massachusetts.
This ruling will finally force the political leaders of the
Commonwealth to give up on the failed social experiment of gun control.
It will also force them to roll up their sleeves and start doing the
hard work of going after the human criminal element, a job some have so
far strove to put off."

Analysis: SCOTUS Drops the Hammer on Anti-Civil Rights Arguments.
|
"... this Court decades ago abandoned "the notion that the
Fourteenth Amendment applies to the States only a watered-down,
subjective version of the individual guarantees of the Bill of Rights,"
- Justice Alito On Monday, June 28, 2010 the Supreme Court of the
United States (SCOTUS) handed down one of the most important civil
rights decisions of the new millennium. In what has become known as the
McDonald decision, SCOTUS held that the Due Process Clause of
the Fourteenth Amendment incorporates the Second Amendment right
recognized in Heller. It further held that the Second Amendment right is
fully applicable to the States. While citizens celebrate the
affirmation of our civil rights by the nation's highest court, it is
just as important to note the arguments that the McDonald decision
formally denounced. In the first day after the landmark decision,
opponents of the incorporation of the Second Amendment have been
working furiously to convince the press that nothing will change. If
that is indeed the case, then why did they fight so hard against the
ruling? Why did they try to convince the Court that incorporation of
the Second Amendment would lead to a doomsday scenario? Locally and nationally, the
anti-civil rights proponents are doing their level best to paint a
picture for the country that most, if not all, existing gun laws will
survive McDonald. They continue to quote a "sound bite" from
the decision that originates from the Heller case, "the right to
keep and bear arms is not a right to keep and carry any weapon
whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose."
What they conveniently fail to tell the public is what the paragraph
read as a whole really states that laws regarding felons, the mentally
ill and certain commercial sale provisions will likely survive. Read the rest on GOAL.org |

GOAL Summer Banquet a great success!
| Saturday June 19th was a
typical hot, humid, and sunny late Spring New England day, and as the
daylight drew to an end, the banquet room at the Boxborough Holiday Inn
started filling. Guests arrived from as far away as Hawaii, and were
thrilled to see all of the great GOAL Gear, raffle prizes, and auction
items up for grabs. They came for many reasons, some for the
camaraderie, some for the chance to bid on a great firearm like a CMP
Rack Grade M1 Garand, and some came to hear the oration of our
distinguished list of speakers which included GOAL's own Executive
Director Jim Wallace, MA. State Senator Richard Moore, MA
Representative and candidate for U.S. Congress in the 10th
District Jeff Perry, Sr. VP and General Counsel of the NSSF Larry
Keane, SAF's Executive VP Alan Gottlieb, New England Patriot Matt
Light, and last but certainly not least NRA Past President (2005-2007)
Sandra Froman. It was great seeing old friendships renewed and new ones
made, as people mingled, checked out the prize items, and snacked on
hors d' oeuvres. Soon dinner arrived and everyone settled down to a
good meal, followed quickly by a stirring tribute to our Veterans, and
our guest speakers.
Jim Wallace began the evening discussing freedom, and juxtaposing
current issues with Lincoln's famous Gettysburg address and continuing
on to discuss Deval Patrick's "One Gun a Month" Bill, "The Governor's
solution to inner city crime is putting us in jail for legally buying
more than 1 gun in a 30 day period, and so far we've stopped that".

Gun Trace Data.. or Deception?
|
The truth about gun trace data and how it is misconstrued by those that would infringe upon our Second Amendment Rights.
Editorial by GOAL Executive Director Jim Wallace.
Gun Trace Data... or Deception?
On June 7, 2010 Boston Globe
blogger James Alan Fox posted an article/blog supporting Governor
Patrick's gun control legislation, H.4102. The legislation includes the
infamous one gun a month law, more commonly known as the "Lawful
Citizens Imprisonment Act". The premise of the legislation is to
imprison lawfully licensed citizens for merely purchasing more than one
gun, or large capacity magazine, within a 30 day period.
Scenario
under the bill: A lawfully licensed citizen follows all of the
procedures for lawfully purchasing a rifle and a large capacity magazine
(A very common lawful transaction.) The citizen lawfully transports the
rifle and magazine back to their home and stores them according to
Massachusetts law. The rifle and magazine were never loaded, never fired
and never taken out of the box again. Under this scenario, the
Governor's proposal would imprison the licensed purchaser for up to 2 ½
years and the licensed retailer for up to 2 ½ years.
It goes
without saying that this proposal is simply a horrible idea and an
insult to all lawful gun owners who are being labeled criminals by this
bill.
In the blog the author uses 2009 ATF trace data to back
his position or at least add supposed evidence for the need to stop
lawful multiple firearm sales in a 30 day period. In his blog he states
that according to this data"60% of guns associated with criminal
activities within Massachusetts come from other states..." This
information is supposedly evidence for the need of the proposed bill for
Massachusetts and other states where guns are traced back to.

We need help with Candidates!
|
Help us, help you, make great decisions on election day!
One of the fantastic after effects of Scott Brown being elected is a new resurgence of people that are willing to not only get involved by working for campaigns, but also to run for office.
There are more new candidates running for office this November within Massachusetts than we can recall seeing for a long time. In order to sort through them we are asking for some help. If you are a candidate for a county, state, or national office, or if you know or work for a candidate, please ask them to fill out one of our new candidate questionnaires.
This will give us a great read on how much a candidate knows, and cares about Second Amendment Issues. After completing we will grade the questionnaire and post that grade on our Candidate Ratings Pages. (See below) *Note: The U.S. Congress ratings are courtesy of the NRA. Also note that ALL of our current incumbents up for re-election have an "F" grade.
