Over the years I have been somewhat obsessed on ensuring that there is always a "space" available for individuals to have a place to evolve through their own life and yoga practice. The day to day stuff of checking in class, laundry, bills, washing mirrors, working with teachers/employees, students, cutting fruit has all gone to helping support each of you. I only hope that I have left the studio an even better place than when this journey started.
As of February 1st your new leader and owner of the studio will be our own Susie McLagan. I cannot tell you how lucky you are. Susie started her Bikram Yoga practice in February 2004 - just one month after the studio opened. In the spring of 2009 she spent nine weeks with Bikram in teacher training. She has been teaching and deepening her own practice ever since that first day in class.
In addition to being a Bikram Certified Teacher Susie has also been a personal trainer for the last eight years with the American Council on Exercise. Susie is well schooled on working with injuries and health conditions. She has worked with everything from simple sprains to MS and cancer. All of this understanding makes her well suited for her next journey as the owner of Bikram Yoga - Bend, Oregon. Rest assured that you will be in good hands.
What will I be doing? In many ways Susie and I are simply "rotating." She will step into the leadership role and I will continue to teach yoga on a part time basis. I would like to say that I am "retiring" to write books and travel. I'm not sure if "retire" will be truly accurate. I will quickly begin to focus more of my time and energy on the release my first book "Falling Down Getting Up' and a series of books that will follow. I am also establishing a new program called "The Getting Up Project." This is a program that will offer tools and resources for individuals and businesses to further grow and expand. Somewhere in there I hope to stick my toes in warm sand as I take a much deserved sabbatical. It has been my dream for sometime to teach yoga, write books and travel. With that in mind I will see you at the Bend studio or perhaps we will cross paths on some warm sunny beach.
In the meantime we have tentatively scheduled the evening of Saturday, February 25 as a time to celebrate this transition. All of you are invited to attend this continuation of community. More information on the time and place will follow soon.
I love each and everyone of you,
Michael Harris
