Get Ready for Spring!

Marlene Covery Tree Pose

Dr. Marlene Covey in Tree Pose

Are your ready for an exciting spring?  Here at Bikram Yoga we are planning on a number of new and exciting changes and events.  Just check out the following list:

> We are Installing a New Furnace!

Our current furnace is been a trusted friend for the last seven years.  We decided to purchase a new one and move it out of the studio.  We don't know the exact day of install - somewhere mid-March.  We will need to cancel classes for one day.  Once we know the date we will let you know.

> April Yoga Challenge!

During the month of April we will have a 30 day yoga challenge.  By practicing Bikram Yoga everyday you will strengthen your body and mind more than you can imagine.  And everyone that completes the challenge will receive a surprise gift!

> PPP, Pole Pedal, Paddle!   Saturday, May 21st

This year Bikram Yoga will help sponsor teams in the PPP.  To be on a team, this is the deal...

You must be a current student of Bikram Yoga - Bend, Oregon. So if you are not a student now - get started today!

We want to create at least three teams of six people for each leg. Alpine, Cross Country, Bike, Run, Canoe Kayak and Sprint Leg.

Once we meet we can pick the team names.  Maybe - The Bikram Yoga Sweat Hogs!

The cost to register teams with the PPP is $42 per person.  Each team will be responsible for this fee.

We highly recommend that in April you do the 30 Day Challenge. This training will help you with strength, flexibility, stamina, endurance and focus!

We will need ongoing support people to help now and on the race day.  Please let us know how you can help!

So with all the fun that this will be, how can we spice it up even more?  Lets have a little internal competition.

The First Place Bikram team will receive One Month of Bikram Yoga to use for themselves or give away.

The First Place Bikram team will be reimbursed for their PPP registration.

All Participants from all teams will receive a t-shirt with their team name.

So beginning today we will have team sign ups at the front counter.  Once the sign ups begin we will set a date for our first meeting to begin establishing teams and set a training schedule.

For More Information on the PPP Check Out Their Website.

Quote of the Month

Student of the Month
 Heather Reichert

Heather Reichert
Heather is a wonderful unique individual. She combines her love of singing opera, being a wildland firefighter and athletic pursuits.  Heather runs, does crossfit and in addition to opera, plays the piano.

Heather first started Bikram Yoga in 2005.  Prior to that she practiced various forms of yoga including Ashtanga.  Today Heather practices Bikram Yoga five or six days a week.  That is except when she is off on a hot shot crew fighting fires in the summer.  She says Bikram Yoga is what keeps her going on the fire lines.  The yoga has really helped her get through the physical grueling demands of her job and helps prevent injuries.

In class, Standing Bow Pulling pose is her favorite posture.  She likes the release she feels in the spine and the challenge with focus and concentration.  Last year Heather participated in the Oregon Hatha Oregon Championships.   She says that the preparation to participate really helped to deepen her yoga practice.

Heather says that little by little she has learned to accept herself.  Like all of us, she has been challenged by stress and the everyday demands of life.  She says that Bikram Yoga has helped her build self confidence and move through moments of depression.   Heather mentions that she is trying to be patient with herself and learning when to push harder and when to ease up.  Perhaps check out the video and hear Heather tell her story.

Congratulations Heather on being
March 2011 Student of the Month!
