60 Day Yoga Challenge
Bikram Yoga for Charity
.
Practice Bikram Yoga everyday for 60 days - and it will change your life - and maybe change another life.
Take a moment and consider that statement. We're not speaking about "maybe" changing your life, "thinking" about changing your life, or any kind of wishful thinking, but really and truly shifting your life in a tangible and exciting way. Read on.
By the time you receive this newsletter I will have already completed nine or ten classes of my 60 day challenge. I have dedicated my challenge to raising money for the Bethlehem Inn - a local homeless shelter. For every class I complete the studio will donate $2. Today a student has offered another $1 per class. I'm seeking to raise at least $500 - even $1,000. Would you consider adding to the donation? Pay $1 a class (or more) for every class I complete? Or even better - consider doing your own 60 Day Bikram Yoga Challenge and raising funds for the Bethlehem Inn or any charity of your choice. As a studio, lets see how much we can help others. You would not only change your life - you just might change someone else's life too.
Perhaps...
o You will feel inspired to know that you are doing your practice for someone else.
o Someone might have food because of your yoga.
o Someone might have shelter because of your yoga.
Side benefits...
o Stretching just a bit more on your next climb.
o Greater lung capacity, for hiking, biking, skiing and more.
o Have more strength - when you need it. Whether opening a jar or lifting a heavy object.
o Lose weight
o Create calmness of the mind.
o Reduced stress.
o More focus.
o Better balance.
o YOU WILL FEEL TRULY AMAZING AND INSPIRED TO DO ANYTHING YOU WANT IN LIFE.
Guidelines and tips for your 60 Day Bikram Yoga Challenge...
o Sign up today at the front desk - Put your name on the board. List a Charity you would like to help.
o Practice as early as you can each day. Your class will be done and you will feel great.
o Mark the Challenge Board each day you do class.
o If you need to miss a day, do a double (it is best to do this prior to missing the day).
o Do the buddy system - commit with a friend.
This year a number of students have already completed a challenge. Some were 30 days, some were 60 days. The students include Courtney Jett, Kira Christania, Shawna Aaland, Zoe Ditmore, Philip Robert, Betty Lynch, Kris Schofeld and Teri Mintz is on a roll - she has completed 82 classes - I wonder how many she will do? I have probably missed a couple of students - so forgive me - please let me know who you are.
During the month of April most of my Bikram Yoga Challenge practice will be the first class of the day. I will be teaching the Tuesday and Wednesday morning 6:15am class throughout the month. Come join me for class and for practice.
The Celebration Party...
Zazam... We are going to have a Celebration Party - Saturday, June 12th - Everyone is invited to come celebrate the completion of the Challenge. We hope that all of you can come..!! I ook forward to seeing you all of you soon!

Book of the Month
This book is quickly becoming the classic book on the interaction between the mind and the body. Dr. John Sarno, Head of Clinical Rehabilitation at New York University complied a group of various physicians to collaborate on the latest medical and scientific breakthroughs of how our body manifests various aches, pains and disorders. This collection of symptoms is called Tension Myositis Syndrom (TMS).
Bikrams teacher, Bishnu Ghosh says all illness is caused by stress. Bikram repeatedly tells us to calm the mind. Rajashree says everything is TMS. Bikram teaches us that through learning how to still the mind that we can heal our body. This book - The Divided Mind - explains scientifically how that happens.
You can pick up your copy today at the studio or any bookseller.
Hope to see you in class today!

April 2010
Student of the Month
Peter Gunby
If you haven't met Peter yet - now is the time. Peter is joining a long list of truly amazing students that have made up our Student of the Month.
So just who is Peter Gunby and why the heck is he doing Bikram Yoga? Peter was the manager of Strictly Organic. I would go get my morning chai and Peter was
always complaining about how much his back hurt. For what seemed like many months I prodded him to try Bikram Yoga - telling him the yoga could very well help reduce his back pain. I think that sometimes he would hide when he say me coming.
Finally a skeptical Peter made his way to class. The first couple of months he came off an on. Of course I would keep prodding him to come more. Peter has now been coming four or five times a week for about nine months. He is often in the 6:15am class. Peter has reduced his overall time that he is in back pain by about 50%. Not bad. That's pretty good. Maybe in another six months or so the yoga will help his back pain be reduced even more - perhaps eliminate it all together.
Peter says that he really likes the standing bow pulling pose. His progress has been up and down - yet he says, "when I find the sweet spot, it's magic!"
Yes, Peter still finds it difficult to get out of bed to be at the 6:15 am class. Though I hear his wife says that he now has a belly of a 30 year old. Hmm.. back is better, belly is better, wife is noticing and happy. Even some of the students have commented to him how he looks much more toned since he started a year ago. Now we just need to prod him to join us in the 60 day challenge!
Next time you see Peter, be sure to congratulate him on being April Student of the Month!
Hope to see all of you in class today!
