Quote of the Month
All creation is governed by law. The ones which manifest in the the outer universe, discoverable by scientists, are called natural laws. But there are subtler laws ruling the realms of consciousness which can be known only through the science of yoga.
- Sri Yukteswar
(Paramahansa Yogananda's Guru)

Book of the Month
This most recent book by Bikram Choudhury is a description of where Bikram Yoga started, Bikram's personal story and perhaps most important how and why Bikram Yoga works. It is written in Bikram's frank yet humorous manner.
"Another overall way yoga heals is by serving as a diagnostic tool. Your inability to hold a posture correctly can often tell you which parts of your body are weak or not functioning well. Like a good mechanic, you'll be running a diagnostic checkup on yourself, locating imbalances to be worked on and organs or other systems in need of repair."
You can pick up your copy today at the studio or any bookseller.
Hope to see you in class today!

March 2010
Student of the Month

Many of you are already friends with Zoe. If not - be sure to say hi. Zoe is a most remarkable person. Rarely does she have anything but a smile on her face. She is almost always jovial and happy to be at yoga. Though she is just like the rest of us, she has her moments - as fleeting as they may be.
Zoe started Bikram Yoga over five years ago. Initially it was a struggle and quite painful for her. Especially the first six months as she felt a great deal of pain in her feet as a result of psoriaic arthritis. One of Bikram's favorite sayings in class is, "pain kills the pain, poison kills the poison". In August of 2004 her doctor recommended that she begin medication - she refused. Instead through regular Bikram Yoga practice she was able to let go of her pain. All by April of 2005. She has not had a recurrence of her arthritis since. Zoe really demonstrate's the power of determination.
Zoe says that she has discovered new things as a result of "aha" moments. For her a small adjustment here and there makes for a whole different experience and outlook on a posture that was previously difficult. She says that floor bow has taught her about using the breath constructively and how she feels all parts of the spine are getting stretched.
Zoe normally comes to class four or five times a week. She has completed a personal 30 day challenge. She finds that she has increased endurance and mental focus for her other physical activity. And says time allowing, " the more the merrier".
Next time you see Zoe, be sure to congratulate her on being March Student of the Month!
Hope to see all of you in class today!
