Bring a Friend Day
Saturday, February 20th, 11am

Friends

Yes, Once again we are having another Bring a Friend Day.  This is a day where you - as a current student - can bring a friend to Bikram Yoga.  Your friend or family member who has not practiced Bikram Yoga can do class for no charge - and on that day can buy a Special One Month of Unlimited Yoga for just $39.  You - the person that brings their friend will receive a Complimentary Week of Unlimited Yoga.  And yes, you can Bring as Many Friends as you like.   Ok - here's the catch.  Before the class fills up - You have to sign up at the front counter - and you have to accompany your friend to class.  That's it.

Yoga Talk
Saturday, February 27th, 7 to 10pm

Our Yoga Talk day on January 23rd was a great success.   Lots of great dessert and lots of in depth and enlightened discussion about yoga.  Many of us really were able to go to a new level of understanding about our Bikram practice.

So on Saturday February 27th we will continue our open forum discussion about all aspects of yoga.  There has also been a great deal of interest in the book How Yoga Works.  I anticipate this book being part of our discussion.

I hope that all of you can come to both our Bring a Friend day and to Yoga Talk..!!

Hope to see you at both events..!!

Book of the Month

Jason Scorpion

This book, How Yoga Works is one of the best books on yoga that I have come across.  It is a story of a young women arrested in India for carrying a copy of the "masters short book".  She then applies the yoga sutras and the principals of yoga as she is held in confinement.   It is a wonderful example of how to live yoga in your everday life.

From page 185:

"Time to knock on the pipes!" I added.
"I was hoping you'd forgotten," he said, his face already dripping from the summer heat.  "Can't we just concentrate on cleaning the pipes from the inside? Isn't it much more powerful?' he asked.
"It is," I agreed. "But working from the outside - the yoga poses, the special ways of breathing-it's something so concrete, something anyone, anywhere, at any age, in any frame of mind, can roll up their sleeves and get their bare hands on, and make gradual, steady, measureable progress on from day to day.  And that in itself is powerful...unspeakably powerful.  We need things like that.  They go together-a perfect union, yoga, inside and out."
"All right," he said with resignation, and stood up to sweat some more.

Many of you may have already read this book.  The local Deschutes County library has three copies - though there is often a waiting list to get it.  The book can be found or ordered from any bookstore or online outlet.  We will spend part of our next yoga talk on discussing this book.

Hope to see you soon!

Hannah Olson Final
Hannah Olson

This is Hannah glowing shortly after leaving another amazing Bikram Yoga class.  At 25 years old (young!) she has now been practicing yoga three to six times a week for over four years.

Hannah just completed a 30 day challange in December.  She says that "the more you do the easier it becomes."  She finished her challange feeling more capable and felt more appreciation for the process - and says she would like to do a challenge twice a year.  On top of her challange she also committed to participate in the recent Oregon Hatha Yoga Championships.  This process really provides an opportunity to face internal challenges and the thoughts that "compete" with each other.

Hannah says that she LOVES the Rabbit Pose.  She feels an incredible release of tension in her middle spine.  She finds the Seperate Leg Head to Knee Pose her most challenging.   Then of course, she actually likes all the postures.

As a sought out local massage therapists, Hannah finds such tremendous relief in her own body through her yoga practice. She adds that she has yet to have a single repetive use injury, never once a shoulder, elbow or finger issue.  In addition, Hannah says that she has not been injured or hurt at all since practicing Bikram Yoga.  To quote her, "A very incredible thing since considering my very active lifestyle in extreme sports; snowboarding, mounting biking, trail running, hiking, climbing and other crazy things I get myself into."

If you know Hannah - be sure to congratulate her.  If you don't know her yet, you will often find her practicing in the 6:15am class with her husband Dan.

Hope to see all of you in class very soon..!!
