Merry Christmas
and
Happy Holidays!
----------
Christmas Renfro

Can you believe it?  The holiday's are already upon us.  This is the time of year that many of us have an opportunity to be grateful for what we have.  With that idea in mind we are asking and encouraging you to clean out your closets.   Bring us your items of clothing - all types - men's, women's and children.  And we will make sure that those who are struggling this year can stay warm over the winter.  Just donating one pair of socks will keep someone's toes warm.   Even when we are struggling ourselves - when we give to others - whether giving materials or of our time -  it makes us feel better.

So bring in your extra items today!

Bikram has been known to call Cobra Pose the most difficult posture of the series.  He says that there is so much going on that it is hard to keep track of.   But let's keep it simple and focus on the basics.

To start the posture make sure your hands/fingers are directly under the shoulders and that your hands/palms are flat on the floor.  Now make sure legs and hips are nice and tight, look up towards the ceiling and use 100% back strength to lift up to your belly button, making sure your arms are 90 degree angle from the side.

The first photo above shows where many of us start in the posture.   Were struggling and working hard just to get there.   Yet ideally we want to strive to be more like the second photo.   To get there though, as a beginner we might need to use a little hand strength to push up.  By lifting up and looking up more we work deeper into the spine.   Eventually we want to use just our spine.  Because, afterall, a cobra has no hands.

There are so many benefits to this posture.  It helps to increase spinal strength and flexibility, helps to reduce and eliminate lower back pain, and helps to cure lumbago, rheumatism and arthritis of the spine.  Cobra also helps to open the heart and lungs, works the intercostal muscles and stretches the stomach and intestinal system.  For women it is know to reduce symptoms of menstruation.

Hope to see you in class today!
