The month of July has been very special for our studio.  During this past month we added extra donation only classes at  6:15 am and 11:00 am.  As a studio we raised a total of $1,376.  50% of the donations are going to help support the Bishnu Ghosh College Fund in Kolkatta, India - this is the yoga school where our teachers Bikram & Rajashree Choudhury began learning early in their lives to practice and teach hatha yoga.  And the other 50% of the donations went to help support two new Bikram Yoga teachers, Tom Dean and Elki Stanley.  Both Tom and Elki received valuable practice time and learning experiences teaching these classes.   A special thanks to all of you in your generous support and contributions.   Of the $688 that is being sent to the Bishnu Ghosh College Fund the studio will match that amount - so the total amount raised of $1,376 is being sent to support the school in India.
 
With the picture above of an early morning class, the studio would like to Honor Every Single Student of Bikram Yoga, Bend Oregon as Students of the Month for August.
 
 
Your generous donations and support have helped ensure that the heritage and lineage of our yoga will continue.  We also want to thank all of you for your generous support of our yoga school right here in Bend, Oregon.   It is because of all of you that we as teachers get to do what we love and still be paid.  But most of all it is important to thank yourselves for giving yourself the gift of yoga.   As Bishnu Ghosh says, "yoga will give you heath and vitality throughout your life".
 
Remember to visit the website to view the ongoing schedule.  Currently there are 25 beginning yoga classes a week on our schedule.  We hope to be adding more beginning classes very soon.

Here we are now at the last posture of the standing series - Toe Stand.  Sometimes fear will rise as a new student when first learning this posture.  Once you realize though that there is nothing to fear, progress will happen very quickly. This posture is so great for the knees and hips.  Especially building strength in the knees - one of the hardest parts of the body to strengthen.  And for those that decide to learn the advance series of Bikram Yoga, this posture will help in lotus pose.
 
To learn this posture, simply start in a standing position.  Find a spot three to four feet in front of you on the floor - and keep your focus on that one spot.   Bring your foot up like tree pose, keep your standing leg straight, then bend over until your hands touch the floor.  It is best to have your hands a little forward so you can put your weight in the hands.  With the weight on the hands begin to sit down on your heel as you balance on your toes.   Remember to keep looking on that one spot on the floor.  If you look in the mirror there is a greater tendency to loose your balance.   Once you are sitting on your heel bring your hands back to the side of the hips.  At first just bring your left hand up - then as you keep your balance - bring your right hand up.  Before you know it, you will be balancing on your toe. 
  
One of the best ways to learn more about the postures is to come to class everyday and read Bikram's Beginning Yoga Class book.    Then,  you will "Make Your Body Smile!"
