This month I am reminded how grateful I am for our yoga studio.  The studio is busy and everyone is continuing to go deeper into your yoga practice.  Our studio is a "room with a view".  A place we we all get a chance to remember the beauty that surrounds us - and the beauty that is within us.

This newsletter is going out before your teacher and mine - Kathy Durham - participates in the US National Hatha Yoga Championships in Los Angeles on February 2nd.  This year there are competitors from 37 states.  If she makes it to the finals she will participate with 28 countries in the International Bishnu Ghosh Cup the following day.   Be sure to cheer her on!

 
More New Classes.  Beginning this month we are adding two more classes per week.   We are adding 11am on Wednesday and 6:30pm on Friday. That makes nearly 1,300 classes on the schedule for 2008.  So no more excuse to miss class!  Be sure to go to our website to check the schedule.

Posture of the Month

This month we take a look at Standing Bow Pulling Pose.  This posture is one of the most beautiful posture to practice and to watch. 
 
To practice this posture there are really only a couple of things you need to know.  You must lock your standing knee, you must kick your other foot, your must stretch forward and you must bring your body down parallel to the floor.   If you do these things you will get maximum benefit from the posture.  Yes it is that simple.
 
This posture is an example of the tourniquet effect.  As you are kicking on one side - the blood is transferred to the other side of the body bring fresh blood to your internal organs and gland to keep them happy and healthy.   Bikram calls it natural irrigation of the circulatory system with the help of the respiratory system.   It also helps to firm and strengthen and firms up your abdominal wall, upper thighs, buttocks, arms and hips.  
                                       
                                 
One of the best ways to learn more about the postures is to come to class everday and to read Bikram's Beginning Yoga Class book.  If you do this you will "Make Your Body Smile!"

What can you say about Mike? He is approaching his third year anniversary with Bikram Yoga Bend! He has attended over 500 classes since his first day, each time with a happy smiling face! He has experienced so many benefits that I'd love to share with you what he told us:

"I love going belt shopping for shorter belts. I have had to go shopping 5 times in 3 years of coming to Bikram's Yoga in Bend.

I have better balance of all kinds: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

I get sick much less for shorter times.

I have defeated arthritis. Modern medicine could not cure or improve my condition.

I don't get mad much anymore. I was always happy, but now I am more happy.

I have a great camaraderie with my fellow yogis who are all great looking and sexy.

I have a sharper mind for business and for pleasure.

People tell me I look better. (I know I do, but in an effort to be humble, I count what others tell me more.)

I look better, oh, I said that!

I am a more proficient warrior when required.

I have become more adaptable in my problem solving.

I feel younger and younger..."

Not only does he come to improve his life, but he also understands the community aspect of this studio and is always encouraging the other students to do their best! He brings energy, laughter, and even music to share with all of us at the studio. Mike reminds us every day that we are capable of infinite possibilities in our body and especially in our life.
