THE WORLD NEEDS THIS FILM
Hello Participants and Crew:

Thank you for your involvement in SEE WHAT I'M SAYING: The Deaf Entertainers Documentary.

I have just returned from filming almost 300 hours of some of the most incredible, unique footage that has left me breathless.  If you are getting this newsletter, that means that you were one of the many incredibly heartwarming participants filmed or worked tirelessly on one of the crews, or invaluably helped out on the film in some way.   I could not have done this without you.

I will be sending one of these newsletters out every month or so with updates.  Please feel free to forward, email me with comments, add your friends to the list, remove yourself from the list or just send good wishes.  It's going to be a long 6 months until we're done this summer!

Thank you for your continued support.  This is possible thanks to you!

Warmest wishes,
Hilari Scarl

Who are the participants?
You are one of the hundreds of participants in this documentary.  You are celebrities - known and yet to be discovered.  You are actors, audence members and families.   You are generous people in the street who stopped to talk to me.  You are one of the 3,800 passengers aboard the Deaf Freedom Cruise - and the exceptional staff aboard the ship.  You come from all over the world, performing at the International Sign Language Theatre Festival and onboard the Deaf Freedom Cruise.  You come from small towns in Arizona and big cities like New York and Los Angeles.  You are seasoned entertainers and beginners with a dream.  You call yourselves deaf, Deaf, hearing, hard-of-hearing, CODAs, SODAs, KODAs, NERDAs, people with a hearing loss, hearing impaired, late deafened, parents of deaf children, interpreters and sign language challenged - but I call you inspirational, enlightening, talented, honest and insightful.

You have opened your lives, shared your opinions and allowed me to tell the magnificent story of the incredible entertainers among us.  You have shared your laughter, tears, stories, gasps and surprise.

You are also one of the several crews that have worked on this film from all over the country.  I could not have done this without the extraordinary talent of the many camera crews, sound, editors, interpreters, assistants, interns and volunteers.  Some of you I never even met - having separate crews around the country filming performances that were happening simultaneously.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every one of you.

Film Credit
It's the holidays - a time for giving.  Why not give a unique gift this year of buying your friends and family a film credit?  They are already going to be sooooo jealous that you have been filmed (they KNEW they should have gone with you that day.)

For our holiday fundraiser, we are adding a special credit list on the end credits of SEE WHAT I'M SAYING for any donation of $500 or more.  It is tax-deductible, and you can have your film credit as any name that you like - yours, a friend, family member, or in honor/memory of someone special.  So guarantee that your name ends up in the film credits no matter what happens in the editing room.

Tax-deductible donations may be made online to us at:

International Documentary Association - donation page

Or make a check out to "Worldplay, Inc." and mail directly to:

We are in immediate need of funding to get us through editing and post production.  Your donation insures that the stories of these incredible entertainers are told.  Every dollar truly helps.  Your generous assistance has enabled us to get this far - please help us to reach our opening night.
