| TTF Launches Interactive Trail Map |
|
The Trail Foundation is delighted to announce our latest innovation, a new, interactive Trail map on our website.
This new tool assists Trail users with easy-to-use interactive features and all the latest news (and project status) on current, completed and future Trail projects. Users can also take advantage of quick views of Trail amenities like restrooms, water fountains and parking lots.
"It's easy to use and can make your Trail experience even smoother," said TTF Executive Director Susan Rankin. "The map tool also lets you see all the latest information on temporary Trail closures and other Trail-relevant events." Hosted by Google Maps, the map is configured so you may scroll, zoom and click on the markers to learn more about our Trail enhancements. We hope you'll explore and learn more about the Trail through this new website feature!

| Planting the Trail |
|
Growth comes to the Trail in all forms - sometimes the simplest! Our regular practice of planting along busy trail sections will soon bring some colorful results. As spring quickly approaches, TTF volunteers turned out March 5 to enhance the Trail. On a beautiful Friday afternoon, Green Mountain Energy's Green Ambassadors volunteered their time to plan 471 flowering native plants at the Zilker Bluffs Tree Grove. Green Mountain has been a strong supporter of TTF, and we're so glad their dedicated volunteers are great with shovels and tucked in so many plants! Among the newly installed Zilker Bluffs Tree Grove plants are: hummingbird bush, skeleton leaf goldeneye, rock rose, and Texas creeping oxeye. The very next morning (in conjunction with Austin Parks Foundation's "It's My Park" Day), TTF volunteers also helped diversify Lou Neff Point, adding 143 perennials to beautify the area, widely known for its near- constant display of a variety of flowers - attracting birds and butterflies to this busy Trail section. Some of the Lou Neff Point plants: Texas kidneywood, fragrant mistflower, Texas betony, cedar sage, and sundrops. Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers!

| Win a 1-Year Membership at Pure Austin |
|
Come springtime, we can think of Trail users as another variety of "perennial," getting ready for the next season - by working off that spare winter layer. If you're among those who not only take advantage the Trail, but are also looking for a (free!) gym membership, has Pure Austin got a deal for you. Pure Austin Town Lake is hosting a "TTF Week" at the gym, March 24 - March 31. Join during the promotional period as a TTF member and you'll become eligible to win a 1-year Pure Austin gym membership, free of charge! The week-long event peaks on March 31, when TTF will be on hand at Pure Austin Town Lake with breakfast tacos in the morning and a happy hour in the evening. Stop by the gym to sign up as a TTF member and enter the raffle. We will be sending more information about TTF Week at Pure Austin Town Lake later this month. Stay tuned! |
| A Great American Park: Founder's Thoughts |
|
Elizabeth Barlow Rogers, founder of New York City's Central Park Conservancy, and Sara Cedar Miller, Central Park historian and photographer, will present a lecture about the history of Central Park, its rebuilding and restoration, and the public/private partnership between the Conservancy and the City of New York. The Austin Parks and Recreation Department, The Trail Foundation, and the Austin Parks Foundation are pleased to co-sponsor this event. Mark your calendar for March 25 from 11 am to 1 p.m. The free public lecture will take place at the Mexican American Cultural Center, located at 600 River Street. Space is limited; please RSVP to Jacqueline.
Bring Your Own Brown Bag. Also, a vendor will be onsite selling Tex-Mex lunch plates. This is sure to be an interesting lecture by two very accomplished leaders!

| A New Round of Bricks |
|
Despite freezing temperatures, workers installed Round 6 of new commemorative bricks at Lou Neff Point on February 24. Strengthen a special connection to the Trail! Consider a gift that will make a lasting impression. Order a brick for yourself, your graduate, your family, or in memory of a loved one. Our special thanks go to Kiwi Company for their generous, in-kind donation of bricklaying services!

| Clean Sweep |
|
Around this time each year, we give the Trail a spring cleaning, as part of Keep Austin Beautiful's citywide "Clean Sweep." It's true - the volunteers who enjoy getting out in April to spruce up the Trail hear constant "Thank yous" from the passers-by who are running, riding, strolling or otherwise making good use of Austin's downtown jewel. Clean Sweep of the Trail will take place on Saturday, April 10th. Volunteers can celebrate their work following the cleanup with a FREE party, including music, food, t-shirts, environmental education activities, and more. Click here to register to clean your Lake and Trail.
