History of Martin Luther King Day

FlagDayObserved on the third Monday of January each year, around the time of King's birthday, January 15. It is one of four United States federal holidays to commemorate an individual person. King was the chief spokesman of the nonviolent civil rights movement, which successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. He was assassinated in 1968.
The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination. Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed in 1986. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2006.

Joke of the Month

Two cab drivers met. "Hey," asked one, "why did you paint one side of your cab red and the other side blue?"

"Well," the other responded, "when I get into an accident, you should see how all the witnesses contradict each other."

There is an old quote; how time flies.

Executive Chauffeuring is now celebrating 50 years of service and its ironic I am also celebrating 50 years. It seem like yesterday (early 70's) I was working with my Father in the garage repairing the vehicles for service. I have had the opportunity and pleasure of associating myself with Executive Chauffeuring and all our customers for the past 37 years. I am thankful for what has been accomplished and achieved; my next goal will be for Executive Chauffeuring to exceed for another 50 years.

To all our customers I THANK YOU.

Airport Procedures
 ORD Terminal
The newsletter gives us an opportunity to convey information to our customers from survey feedback, comments and suggestions. One area we would like to address is airport pickup procedures. The Chicago airport can be a confusing place especially when you're a first time traveler. When arriving at the airport we ask that you call from the baggage claim level with luggage in hand the EC customer service agent will give you a license plate number (3-4 digits long), description of vehicle type and direct you out a door with an approximate time of vehicle arrival (avg. 10-12 minutes). The vehicle is immediately dispatched to the terminal from the limousine staging area. On heavy volume times it can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes once dispatched to the terminals, EC will try to give more accurate ETA's and ask for a cell number for when the vehicle arrives at the terminal (on heavy volume times).

In regards to pickup doors the city of Chicago has dedicated certain doors for Livery vehicles. There has been some confusion on door assignment because of construction at the terminals. During construction doors have been moved, changed and permanently closed.  We will try to keep you updated as we receive information from the Manager of Landside Operations-O'Hare.

Possible problem scenarios; calling for a vehicle from the plane, calling before picking up luggage and calling while walking thru the terminal. Once the vehicle is sent down there is no circling or waiting at the terminal it is a cat and mouse game with ground security they have a no wait policy. If your vehicle is chased out they will have to go back around (avg. 15-25 minutes).

Flight arrival times are tracked with our integrated flight tracking system. Once you arrive and find there is a delay with your luggage pickup, please call our office to give us an update.

You only need to call our office if your flight has been cancelled or diverted.

If you have any questions regarding this information please call one of our customer service agents.

GM Designs New Presidential Limo
January 6, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - President-elect Barack Obama is getting a new ride to go with his new address on Jan. 20.

The new limousine, dubbed the 2009 Cadillac Presidential Limousine, makes its debut on Inauguration Day. It's the first presidential limousine not to carry a specific model name, said GM spokesman David Caldwell.

Ed Donovan, a Secret Service spokesman, confirmed that the new Cadillac limousine would make its debut on Jan. 20 during the inauguration, but declined to elaborate on the new vehicle's improvements or specifications.
