Until one has loved an animal (other than human) a part of one's soul remains unawakened.  Anatole France
Animals teach us about behavior, life, joy, tragedy, death and responsility.  They encourage us to be silly and get out of our own way.~

 Pawing for Gold!
TopThis month we are focusing on channeling winter energy.  One of the ways dogs relieve stress, have fun, explore and enjoy is by digging.  They dig with unabashed enthusiasm.

Dogs get cabin fever in the winter just like we do.  Puppies, and energetic dogs, can go looney without the opportunity to Paw for Gold

Knowing why dogs need to dig and that it is their nature-given right, along with some creative ways to keep them amused will help you survive winter and smoothly flow into Spring and blossoms.

There is nothing as pleasurable as observing family teamwork in training.

Remember Dakota, our lovely, visually challenged Akita pup?  Well, he graduated and now considers the A-Frame his next goals.

Dakota Graduates

Kiki & Dakota Graduate Level-1.  Good Job Dakota and all the families who went beyond the limits (and an icestorm).  Thank you for patience.  You are honored.

Are you easing your way into the New Year by setting goals and getting organized?  Me too!

Making it Work by David Allen may help.  It is given to entrepreneurs from small to global, fortune 800 companies.

As a fellow business owner, dog trainer, behaviorist, author and one who admittedly likes to spend lazy-time with my dogs, I empathize with ANYONE trying to keep it all together  Take the little quiz at GettingThingsDone

Stay tuned in 2009 for educational workshops from generous presenters who "get it done". They know how much we learn from pets & nature.

Enjoy their wisdome in smaller workshops.

Awareness, Relationship, Flexibility & Strength, the A.R.F.S. of Doga
TiaMoeDowndog09
Catching on in bigger citys like LA and NYC, Doga is simply practicing yoga with dogs.

I have been practicing Yoga for over 20-years, so I know the mind, body and spiritual benefits. Yoga helps humans and dogs with calming, strength and flexibility.  Postures range from very easy to long-holding resistance poses that can help you break into a cardio sweat.  This is not DOGA, at least not at Dog Talk.

Doga is integrated much like canine massage or stretching into some classes depending on the energy present.  I use it often for owner's and dogs in private coaching to get in the moment.

Dogs cannot learn if they are bouncing.  Humans cannot teach if they aren't focused. This applies to all aspects of life though doesn't it?  Any connection that is calm and beneficial to the dog and owner is a good thing particularly in today's "supersized" and "on-the-move" world.

DT classes integrate doga for grounding, getting in the moment and desensitization.  As of yet, we don't have full-blown doga classes, but there are a few videos and books out on it.

As with any Yoga class for humans, we encourage Yoga-Doga-Courtesy.  It makes sense whether in a spinning class, at church or dog training.

YogaforDogs - Video is cute, but be mindful that this should be incremental.  Most dogs enjoy careful stretching and touching.
Quiz ~ Training ~ Tip
Don't Peek!
How old is your dog, behaviorally, at 1 year?

A.  7
B.  10
C.  30
D.  15
E.  Don't care ...

This clarifies why our 7-month old is strolling away when we call.  They are becoming independent teenagers!

Consider nature / nurture too.  If you adopt a dog at 3 with little history or training, this changes the game.  It doesn't mean the dog cannot learn, you simply need to be more pro-active and patient.
