See! I've already made you laugh. But it's true--especially if you occasionally take a little time to visit some of the blogs below.
Some of them are downright funny, and they all teach some good lessons about grammar, usage and style.
In honor of the lazy days of summer, let's do a little Internet surfing and have some fun.
If you have a language or grammar blog you enjoy, I'd love to hear about it!
Mighty Red Pen
Scroll down to the July 29 entry to find out what these
words mean: honeyfuggle, hookem-snivey, mulligrubs.
Wordsplosion!
Photos of various types of errors and oversights from
billboards, packaging and signs, paired with entertaining commentary. Here's
one of my favorites:
GrammarBlog
A bit snide and snarky in places, but this guy knows his
stuff. Look for the Grammar Wizard cartoon and see what happens to wizards who end their sentences with prepositions.
Motivated Grammar
The blog of a linguist who thinks the purpose of grammar is
to provide a guide to clearer communication--not to catch people in minor
mistakes. He has a sense of humor too.
The Grammar Vandal
An English teacher from Boston crusades as the Grammar Vandal.
Armed with a Sharpie and a sheet of comma stickers, she corrects grammatical
mistakes she sees on public signs.
After-DeadlinePublished by
The New York Times, this one's not exactly funny, but is very informative and fun to read.
Manglage of Language
A compilation of words and sayings that people make up and
mangle.
