Greetings!
Sometimes when I sit down to write my newsletter, it all flows out easily - and other times - not so much. Like today for example. I have an absolute TON of stuff to share with you and its so hard for me to figure out where to start.
The CashFlowDNA was excellent. It was so good in fact that I have a whole plethora (that's a 25 cent word) of new ideas for projects. It's enough to make my "bright shiny object syndrome" brain cells do the happy dance!
I've reviewed the event for you below and included links to some of the other speakers. I wish I'd been able to see (and review for you) ALL of the speakers, but my DH had a little biking mishap (more in my musing below) so I had to be the hockey chauffeur that weekend too.
Finally, I am finally ready - I have completely revamped how I deliver some of my information. Now I am doing video!! I am having so much fun re-purposing my classes and I am really pleased with how it's going so far. I started with my course on networking (after all, you signed up for a networking newsletter).
So, what that means is the 7 Deadly Sins of Networking home study course is no more! - It's dead...so to speak. If you're still receiving it, don't worry, you'll still get all the lessons. Now if you go to 7deadlysinsofnetworking.com you'll get a complimentary video and some other brand new cool stuff. Whether you're done with the old home study course or not, head on over and see what I am giving away now. I think it will blow you away!
Now that the boring business is out of the way, on to the Networking News!
Please Enjoy!

Miss Karen's Monthly Musing
|
Boy, when it falls around here it happens all at once!
Suddenly it's dark at 7:00 in the morning and I am hitting the virtual snooze button. Why does my sleepy brain believe that 15 minutes is going to make a whit of difference?
And getting up for hockey when it's completely dark. Well let's just say "ew." The good news is that Stephen's team is doing great. they've played 3 pre-season games and won all of them. Stephen even got a shut-out on Saturday - and I got to see it! Because I was going to be at Cashflowdna, I didn't think I was going to be there - except my husband crashed his bike Friday night. (another fall - heh) I hear the proper term is "getting doored."
Anyway, he's OK, just sore but he didn't feel comfortable driving so I left the event and played chauffeur. I am so glad I did because Stephen had a great game AND I got to take some video!
(Special thanks to Kathryn Bing-You who donated a flip camera! - go check her out - she's awesome btw)
I posted the video to the new Stephen Frank #60 blog. So if ya wanna see some youth hockey click here! It makes me feel so technologically current! HA!
Well that's it for now. Been working so much getting my new video series launched and getting my new clients situated that I'm feeling a bit boring this week.
Until next time, Karen |
What I Learned at CashFlow DNA
|
I love a good networking opportunity! CashFlow DNA did not disappoint. In fact, the speakers I was able to see were excellent and each one had great take-aways.
So I wanted to recap what I learned and let you in on a little secret. First the recap - Here's who I actually got to see:
Craig Duswalt - Rock Star System for Success. All I can say I I am so glad I didn't have to follow this guy! He came onto the stage and started throwing T-shirts like at a rock concert. He was one of the funniest speakers I have EVER seen and his real personality made you feel no matter what this guy teaches - you can do it.
His main point was that if you incorporate "you" into whatever you do, you have no competition because the only one who can be you - well, is you. He teaches people how to use a rock star mindset to be a celebrity in their own industry. In his "reinvent yourself" section he offered 8 simple steps for success. 1. Get rid of clutter - cuz who can work with clutter all over the place. 2. Stop procrastinating - just get it done. 3. Focus - Follow one course until successful (helps with the procrastinating too) 4. Bring Music into your life (I always forget how powerful this is) 5. Do something, then tell everyone how you did it - makes a great informational product! 6. Go and tell no man.- Once you've figured it out don't go tell your friends and family because they're not going to tell you you're a genius, they're going to tell you that it's a dumb idea and you can't do it - (Yup - I know this from personal experience). 7. Schedule it. Seems like a no brainer, but if it's not in your calendar, it's probably not going to happen 8. Learn Internet tricks.- Well that's pretty involved and I am sure he offers a ton of that on his newsletter and website. Here's the link to that.
Ann Evanston - Warriorpreneur on Social Networking
Ann was actually doing video blogs as the speakers (including me) were on stage and then tweeting them. Very cool. Her section was information PACKED. Here are the highlights:
Social Media vs. Social Networking - Social media is the platform (where you do it) and Social Networking is the activity (what you do) The only thing holding you back from doing social networking is your limiting beliefs about it. Just do it it's not as hard as you think Education based marketing is the key (this should sound familiar to you networking news subscribers) The "Big 4" Social Media Sites Linked In, Facebook, Twitter and You Tube. Gotta be on those, but not every single one you get an invite to! Video is now - It's not "the future" anymore. Figure out who you are (not what your role is) and be that. When you find your voice, you'll find success.
Ann is the expert at this stuff. If you want to be trained in social networking by the best check out her website. Peter Hirshberg - if you EVER wanted a history of the internet and the impact of social marketing on big business, Peter is your man. His was an amazing, funny, insightful presentation of how exactly things like Twitter are impacting big business and making markeitn more "real" on many levels. His main message - Take heart as an entrepreneur - The things you've been doing for years and your ability to change quickly are your advantage during this economic situation. He didn't present this material, but he is so facinating, Here's his video on the computer vs TV
...and of course Adryenn Ashely! How wonderful to have such a grounded and generous Leading Lady. She turned the whole thing into a WORK shop and we even had action items for when we went home. FABULOUS!
So here's the big secret! She's taking this thing on tour. The website isn't up yet, but look for Adryenn Ashley's CashFlowDNA the Curing Unemployment Tour coming to a city near you! And since you're on my mailing list, you'll be one of the first to know! Yay!

Networking Tip of the Month
|

Are You Referable? Or (I go networking events all the time, and say all the right things - Why am I not getting any business?)
They're watching...
Not to creep you out or anything, but people are watching what you do.
And how you do what you do is what makes you referable - or not.
Here's something to think about:
How you do anything is how you do everything.
Most people don't think about it in terms that are as simple as that, but it's one of those universal truths.
When you go to a networking event, are late, have trouble introducing yourself, take "emergency phone calls" or generally behave badly with people, it's too late. You've already been pegged.
You could say all day long "oh I am not usually late like this" or "This is so out of character for me" - and NO ONE will believe you.
Actions speak louder than words - and how you do anything is how you do everything.
Once you've gone there, the only way to prove you actually are NOT that way is to demonstrate it - and they'll be watching.
So here are 3 tips to think about when you're meeting someone or going to a networking event.
1. Be present when people are talking to you. Look people in the eye. Ask questions about them and their business and try to help them in whatever way you can. Don't let your eyes dart around the room and look for an exit strategy before this person has even said "boo" to you. You never know if the Mary Kay consultant is married to a billion dollar CEO - or needs to meet one. Not paying attention to me doesn't make you any more referable.
2. That first glass of wine is not such a good idea. The second one - even worse. Remember, those who are watching will wonder if you're there for the snacks and the cheap drinks or to connect with people. I find it fascinating to speak with people who don't feel that drink has affected them one bit. Being tipsy doesn't make you more referable.
3. Don't try to sell people your stuff. OK look - (Of course YOU don't do this at networking events) If you were to try to sell me your thing, whatever it is, I will perceive that you'll do that with anyone I refer to you. I don't like to be sold to and neither does anyone else I know.
If you can describe the problem you solve and for whom you solve it, if I need what you have, I just might want it. If I don't, because you were talking about what you do instead of trying to make a sale, you are much more referable and I am more likely to make a connection for you. Selling to me at a networking event - OR the first time we meet, makes you very un-referable.
People do business with and refer to people they know like - and trust . Don't just talk about it - DO the things that will make people trust you.
Be referable! |
