June 14, 2012    Focus on concerts at Christ Church Cathedral
Dear friend of MusicFest Vancouver,

top Once again MusicFest Vancouver is pleased to partner with Vancouver's historic Christ Church Cathedral. The cathedral's central location at Georgia and Burrard coupled with its air conditioned and comfortable interior make it a fantastic place to take in a concert and we look forward to seeing you there!

It's going to be an amazing festival, so pause your player - mute your phone - attend a concert - and see with your own ears how a live musical performance can move you - it's like you're there!

Our Volunteers are AWESOME!

MusicFest Vancouver could not happen without the hard work of our volunteers who cheerfully stuff envelopes, answer phones, distribute posters and postcards, enter data, usher at concerts, act as enthusiastic festival ambassadors,  and fulfill a host of other duties. We are incredibly thankful for their dedication!

Volunteers at work
A stapling party at the MusicFest Vancouver office. Volunteers from left to right: Cynthia Lee, Veronika Ong, Eleanor May, and Carol McConnell.

Many of our volunteers return year after year and their reasons are as varied (and fun) as they are:

Veronika Ong:
"I've volunteered for 11 years. I enjoy working with the team and meeting interesting people who enjoy the festival."

Eleanor May:  "I have volunteered for 4 or 5 years. I love the music, meeting great people - and getting to avoid housework!"

Keegan Chen (not in the photo): "I guess this is my 7th year volunteering. I really like it because I get to go to lots of free concerts of many kinds of music."

You can be become part of our volunteer team! Click on the Volunteer! button below to be taken to our online registration form. The deadline is June 22 and we'd love to have you on board! If you have any problems please email Lucy, our Volunteer Coordinator (click on her name to start an email), or give her a call at 604.688.1031, extension 101.

2012 MusicFest staff
Each issue of our newsletter will introduce a MusicFest Vancouver staff member who will share what concert they can't wait to hear.  Lucy Smith, our Volunteer Coordinator, is looking forward to  Legends: The Whitening of the Ox & The Firebird on August 12 (8pm Vancouver Playhouse.) Lucy says:

"Come experience Vancouver's vibrant, ever-evolving new music scene. Using different performance techniques and incorporating unique usage of multimedia, our local composers are constantly pushing the borders of traditional music.

As a professional, classically trained singer, I'm becoming increasingly involved in workshops and performances of new works around the city. I can assure you, it's incredibly exciting to be a part of these events, whether you're performing, or listening from the audience. Hope to see you there!"

Be sure to check out the FREE Open Rehearsal for Whitening of the Ox on August 11 at the Tom Lee Music Hall.
