22nd Annual Festival of India

Utah Valley's  Krishna Temple, located on South Main St. in Spanish Fork, will host the 22th Annual Festival of India  Saturday, September 13th from 4 pm.

After 21 increasingly successful editions of the India Fest, few people in Utah County are ignorant of the fact  that, once a year, you can go to India without spending a lot of money. You can have India right in the middle, of all places, ... Spanish Fork!

Over 4,000 people attended last year's celebration, and India Fest 2008 could be the biggest one yet, thanks to the enthusiastic increase of promotional efforts on the part of the organizers, the majestic, overlooking presence of the Krishna temple at the festival site, and a natural amphitheater which can accommodate thousands.

Set around the Rajastani style, multi domed temple, the eight acre festival site will feature world class entertainment, cuisine, a gift shop, art, photography, cultural exhibits on India, a gala pageant of the epic Ramayana, the burning of a 20' high ten-headed demon named Ravana, and spectacular fireworks.

Please note there are 200 parking spaces on the temple property. Parking is free. There is no need to park on the road, and walk a long way to the event. It is also advised to bring a blanket for sitting in the grass amphitheater and a jacket against the slight cooling after 8 pm.

Taking Things Literally

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other man pulls out his phone and calls emergency services and gasps to the operator: "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator in a calm, soothing voice replies: "Take it easy. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a shot is heard.

Back on the phone, the hunter says, "OK, now what?"

Provo Farmers' Market

Sri Hanuman, Sandhya, and Caru Das did a booth at the Provo Farmers Market for the first time. They sold literature, apparel, hand bags, essential oils, and did quite well. Sri Hanuman had brought a sound system from the temple, and on the grass behind their booth, sang solo kirtans and bhajans for a couple of hours, sometimes with guitar and sometimes with harmonium. Far from being annoyed at the sound, the neighboring booth occupants clapped to show their appreciation after each selection. They really seemed to enjoy the music as did the general populace. In future weeks it would be great if more devotees joined us for chanting.

Many people came by the booth to say, "Welcome, what took you so long to get here. We've been expecting you for years." Caru said, "Better late than never."

Provo Farmers Market

Next week Caru Das wants to incorporate prasadam into the booth offerings which should at least double or triple the income. Anyone who would like to cook and bring some prasadam for sale is welcome to do so at home and bring the items by the booth during operational hours from 9 am - 1 pm Saturdays. The market is located at Pioneer Park on 500 West Center Street, Provo. To find the Krishna booth, be alert for the sound of music and the smell of incense and hallava.

Devotees plan to have booths on the following dates this fall:
September 6, 20, & 27. October 11, 18, & 25th. There will be no booth on the weekends of the India Fest (Spetember 13th) and the Om Shanti Retreat (Oct. 3 -5).

We would appreciate any volunteer help for the manning of the booth, selling of books, clothes, prasadam and/or singing in the kirtans.

Please call Caru Das to indicate your willingness to help. (801) 787-1510.
