Humor Ganesh & the Lottery

Bholaji finds himself in dire trouble. His business has gone bust and he's in serious financial trouble. He's so desperate that he decides to ask Ganesh for help. He goes into the temple and begins to pray.
"Oh Ganesh, please help me, I've lost my business and if I don't get some money, I'm going to lose my house as well. Please let me win the lottery."
Lotto night comes and somebody else wins it. Bholaji goes back to the temple. "Ganesh please let me win the lotto. I've lost my business, my house and I'm going to lose my car as well."Lotto night comes and Bholaji still
has no luck. Back to the temple he goes. "My Ganesh, why have you forsaken me? I've lost my business, my house, my car and my wife and children are starving. I don't often ask you for help and I have always been a good
servant to you. Why won't you just let me win the lotto this one time so I can get my life back in order?"
Suddenly there is a blinding flash of light as the sky parts open and Bholaji is confronted by the voice of Ganesh: "Bholaji, buy a lottery ticket first." |

Llama Fest Article

Party Animals By Martha Crofts NewsNet Staff Writer - 18 Jul 2003
This is an article written for the Daily Universe in 2003. We reprinted it here and changed some of the information to make it contemporary.
This year's Llama Fest in Spanish Fork will include the 10 llamas that will march in the Freedom Festival Grand Parade and about 60 others.
The festival on 15 landscaped acres adjoining the Krishna Temple, one mile south of downtown Spanish Fork, starting at 4 p.m. Saturday July 14th.
The annual Llama Fest began in 1995 after Caru Das, a llama owner, had gone to llama events and left disappointed that they were not of much interest to the public.
"We thought that by compressing competitions into one day and adding food, music and exhibits, it would really be something for the public," Das said.
The Llama Fest attracts between 4,000 and 5,000 people yearly, including many BYU students, parents, grandparents and other llama owners.
Llamas participate in obstacle courses and a race and also show rings with their handlers.
The Llama Fest includes more than just llamas for entertainment. Stage entertainmnet will be provided by Lowell Blue, Los Hermans de los Andes, The Good Karma Blues Band, and Los Nuestras Raices.
Part of the grounds are designated to spinners and weavers, giving demonstrations. They encourage people to sit down and do something for themselves with the wool, he said.
Although the Llama Fest is not sponsored by the city of Spanish Fork, Maryclare Maslyn, the assistant city manager, said they are very supportive of the Krishna Temple programs and she is happy they are here."They always have things going on," Maslyn said. "They provide a variety of cultural events which enhance the quality of life in our community."
Other festivals are held throughout the year at the llama farm, and Krishna temple.
Screna Benish, a Spanish Fork resident, took her daughter in September to see a production of the epic Ramayana that she thought was impressive. She noticed many people come from all over to attend the festivals. She said when she drives by the temple, she knows when there is something going on because cars are parked all along the road.
The Llama Fest costs $3 for adults and $1 for children. It takes place at 8628 S. Main Street in Spanish Fork. |
It was a bigger crowd than last year, made to appear even more so by
the new stage next to the temple and lake. Food, gifts, temple
building, animals, were all compacted closer together than last year,
which better connected the artists and audience. There was a lot more
intimacy for a festival of this medium size than can be achieved using
the main amphitheater stage. We'll save that big stage for Llama Fest
(July 14) and India Fest (Sept. 15) both of which attract 3,000-4,000
people. Read More..
