INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) is pleased to announce that the Indianapolis International Airport's (IND) Midfield Terminal complex has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. IND is the first airport in the U.S. to win LEED certification for an entire terminal campus. The Midfield Terminal campus, at more than 1.2 million square feet, is among the largest projects to be awarded LEED certification.
The certification applies to the terminal, concourses, the Ground Transportation Center, and the parking garage. The design, construction, and operation of the Midfield Terminal complex incorporates numerous innovative features that allowed planners to overcome the unique and challenging hurdles to designing sustainable airport facilities. The resulting LEED certification is recognition that energy efficiency, sustainable design, and protection of the environment are central features of the new Indianapolis International Airport.
"On today's third anniversary of the Midfield Terminal opening, we are reminded of the decades-long foresight and strategic planning that were required to create the awardwinning, internationally recognized airport we now enjoy," said John D. Clark III, executive director and CEO of the IAA. "I congratulate our team for achieving a milestone that recognizes our Board's vision and commitment to making sustainability a part of that process and for helping to create a facility that will serve the Central Indiana region for many years to come.

From Your 2011 Chair
John O'Brien
Here we are, already in December and at the end of the year. 2011 has been both challenging and rewarding for me as the Chairman of the Chapter. We've had some rebuilding to do this year, as the Chapter has definitely felt the difficulty of the economy, particularly through 2010. I am happy to report that the Chapter is well on the road to recovery.
One of our main efforts this year has been to provide opportunities for our membership to obtain GBCI approved CMP credit toward their LEED AP continuing education requirements. This proved to be a great success - hundreds of CMP hours earned by our members.
The last several months have included a very large effort toward the planning of the Greening the Heartland conference that will take place in Indianapolis next May 16-18. There have been many volunteers already involved, but, as the date gets closer, the need for volunteers will increase significantly. It is a big endeavor, but a successful conference will be a great catalyst for the ongoing success of the Chapter and its mission. We really need to promote this conference to potential sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and attendees - please spread the word and visit greeningtheheartland.org for further information and registration.
I'd like to especially thank the 2011 Board of Directors, all of the Chapter and Branch volunteers, members, and all of the Sponsors of the Chapter this year. Without your support, participation and commitment, the Chapter would not be able to function. I look forward to my continued involvement with the Chapter next year as the immediate past Chairman (mainly focusing on Greening the Heartland in the first part of the year). The Chapter will be in great hands with Dan Overbey as the Chairman in 2012.
Sincerely,
John O'Brien
2011 Chair, USGBC Indiana

Campaign Spotlight: Homegrown Initiatives Make Green Building a Win-Win

Beat-the-Meter Blitz
USGBC's Indiana Chapter is making the case to local homeowners that energy efficiency at home both makes sense, and is easy to do. Called the Beat-the-Meter Blitz, this program provides free home energy assessments in exchange for a meaningful commitment: Prior consent to commit to at least some of the recommended upgrades in home energy efficiency. The Indiana Chapter 's Beat-the-Meter program, now in its second year, is a program in partnership with the City of Bloomington.
By focusing on both homeowner education and the benefits of home energy efficiency improvements, USGBC Indiana is not only showing residents how they can save money in the short term, but are laying the groundwork for future city programs that may harness the many benefits of cleaner, greener homes. Partnering with local governments is a great way to maximize program capacity and advance the green building conversation.
While every state, city, and community is different, there is always enough commonality in advocacy efforts to help inspire your next great campaign. What are you doing to advance green building in your community today? Posted by USGBC at 11:41 AM 0 comments

USGBC Member benefits Now include an App Lab
Contact: Ashley Katz Communications Manager, USGBC 202.742.3738 akatz@usgbc.org
USGBC Launches App Lab New applications to support the LEED certification process through the LEED Automation Program Washington, DC - (Nov. 22, 2011) -The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has launched its online App Lab as part of its LEED Automation Program. The lab launched with eight applications, developed by LEED Automation Partners, and is designed for use with Internet browsers, tablets, smartphones and other devices.
The App Lab is a searchable catalog of third-party apps that are integrated with LEED data. Each app is a fully functional software tool that has been enhanced to provide LEED projects teams and administrators integration with LEED Online and address the LEED certification process. These tools are already being used for helping with task management, data interchange, file uploads, credit scorecards, credit strategies, team messaging and other uses, and are now capable of interacting directly with USGBC's LEED Online system.
"The LEED App Lab has been highly anticipated as a way to leverage multiple partners to expand the presence of green building," said Scot Horst, Senior Vice President, LEED, U.S. Green Building Council. "The potential leverage points are so numerous that we really cannot anticipate the full impact of the App Lab. All we are sure of is that we have created a place to ignite the flames of true innovation and growth. LEED already embodied innovation. Now we are pushing LEED toward an entirely new world of possibilities."
All LEED automation partners have the ability to publish new apps to USGBC's App Lab.
