Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana is a statewide, open-access community college with campuses in 23 communities throughout the state.
Ivy Tech hired the Hagerman / RATIO team to design and construct a new 71,850 sq.-ft. academic building and 8,000 sq.-ft. community center on their Elkhart campus.
In addition to offering students, staff and the community a bright, welcoming place to learn, Ivy Tech's Elkhart facility is a LEED Silver certified building. RATIO's team used sustainable design practices that efficiently and thoughtfully use the Earth's resources while, and that provide Ivy Tech with significant savings.
· Sixty-six percent of the site supports native habitat. Through protection of existing vegetation and restorative native planting, 874,000 sq.-ft. of Ivy Tech Elkhart's site supports the maintenance and development of the region's native plant and animal habitats.
· Seven million gallons of water saved in landscape irrigation.
· Twenty percent energy savings compared to a baseline building. These energy savings can result in a carbon emissions reduction of 350,000 pounds of CO2 per year.
· Forty-three percent water savings, compared to a baseline building. · Seventy-five percent of construction waste was recycled.
· To help keep Ivy Tech Elkhart students and staff healthy and breathing easy, only low VOC paints, sealants, adhesives, carpets and casework were specified and used inside the building.
