Cheese of the Month
Old Amsterdam from Holland
Old Amsterdam is a premium aged Gouda with a rich robust flavor. It has become the #1 brand of mature cheese in its country of origin, Holland. Made from cow's milk, it is hand crafted with a secret family-owned cheese culture and carefully ripened under the watchful eyes of Master Cheese Makers. This attention to quality yields a Dutch masterpiece with wonderful nutty, buttery flavor and smooth texture. Look for the distinguished black wax as the guarantee of authenticity, quality and superior flavor. Old Amsterdam is best served alone, but it is versatile enough to use in cooking and in salads. It slices, grates and cooks well. Pair it with hearty reds including Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. We enjoyed it with Chateau Cazat-Beauchene Bordeaux Superior 2008.
Regular: $24.95
Special: $14.95 /lb
Sale Price Good through February 29, 2012

Fruit of the Month:
Sierra Sweet Kiwis
from Shanley Farms, California
Sierra Sweet Kiwis are unique because Shanley Farms holds their kiwis on vines much longer than what is traditionally done in California, up to eight weeks longer than the first of the season harvest. The minimum legal sugar level (brix) to harvest kiwis in California is 6.2. Most kiwis are harvested in the 6.2 to low 7 brix, which provides extremely stable storability to the late season. Sierra Sweet Kiwis were harvested the week of November 28th with sugar levels between 11.5 and 12.5 points. All kiwis will gain an additional 4-7 points between harvest and optimal ripeness.
"Over the years, people have gotten away from eating kiwis due to a lack of optimal flavor," said grower Jim Shanley. "In fact, we only eat the kiwis that the pickers missed six weeks after the commercial harvest. We are now trying to bring that flavor back to the consumer."
The name says it all; Sierra Sweet Kiwis are extremely sweet. In fact, they should be the sweetest kiwis most people have ever eaten! Now available at Draeger's though February, or while supplies last.
