Wayne and Judy, brother-sister author team of 'Lifecycles of Butterflies', answers 22 questions.

An email interview with Wayne and Judy (as well as their spouses and Mom) reveals much about the birth of their book.

    Some of the questions are:

    • What did you learn that fascinated you the most?
    • How long did it take to write your book?
    • What was your biggest challenge?
    • Are you writing another book?

Wayne Richards and Judy Burris would not make a promise. Can you guess what they would not promise to do?

Keywords for free shipping when you purchase this book is the name of their website; Butterfly Nature.

Wayne and Judy would not WHAT?

Ceraunus Blue or Cassius Blue; Which One?

I took photos and couldn't tell the difference between the two; so I turned to my expert, Bill Berthet. Bill came through as always and showed me how to differentiate between the two.

One eats aster while they are caterpillars; the other eats matchstick (frogfruit, fogfruit) while they are caterpillars.

The Butterflies and Moths website lists host plants each species will eat and where each species is found in the mainland United States; Cassius Blue and Ceraunus Blue.

    Can YOU tell the difference?

We DONE it! (and some of you are saying ... "finally!")

We found the search engine we wanted and loaded it on our site. We're delighted!

We hope you'll find the search engine as useful as we are. With over 250 pages on the site, even we have trouble finding certain information.

    Try it out!

How far can you glue a chrysalis?
... for it to emerge without problems!

Most of us start off sooooo careful. We glue ONLY the tip of the cremaster when we glue a pupa (chrysalis).

BUT what if we glue too far? What is too far?

    How far can you go?

What is the difference between a Queen and Soldier?
In the butterfly world, that is!

A Queen and a Soldier look very similar. How can you tell them apart?

No, it didn't get splattered with bleach and yes, it does look like it did.

That isn't bleach splatters on those wings!

You don't have time to bring them inside ...
... so how do you protect them?

Are predators and parasitoids doing a number on your butterflies? Welcome to the 'beauty' of nature. These rascals are one of the reasons why 98% of butterfly eggs never become adult butterflies.

Yes, you can protect them without taking the time needed to bring them inside and tend to them every day.

How can you protect your caterpillars ... outdoors?
