It's that time! Yellow butterflies abound in the
southeastern part of the US. Fields are full of that
pesky weed that farmers plow, hoe, and spray to kill,
Sickle Pod Senna, also known as Coffeeweed. It is a
major host plant for several yellow butterflies.

What color is the caterpillar of the Cloudless Sulphur?
Green or yellow?
In the southern portion of the United States, Cloudless
Sulphurs have become plentiful! Car windshields are
often dusted with yellow scales left from the meeting
of the two.
Cloudless Sulphur caterpillars, like some other
cassia eating caterpillars, are green until they eat the
yellow blossoms of their host plants. After eating the
yellow blossoms for a few days, the caterpillars turn
yellow.
These caterpillars are able to fling themselves three
feet from their host plants when disturbed. If they do
not fling themselves from their plant, they usually 'spit'
dark green fluid out of their mouths.
