Picture this; oleander turned ugly, stripped of leaves,
and frustrated gardeners. Their oleander has been
eaten by orange 'worms' with long black tufts of hair.
What to do? Check out the Oleander Moth before you
make your decision!
Maypop time! Maypop is a host plant for Gulf
Fritillaries, Variegated Fritillaries, Zebra Longwings,
and Julias. Passiflora incarnata bears fruit, full of
seed. Edible? When?

Is it a wasp?
Nope, it's a moth!
It may take a bit of courage to hold a Polka Dot moth
for the first time. It closely resembles a wasp but
instead it is a soft moth.
Gardeners are often frustrated as their beautiful
oleander plants are eaten by the Polka Dot Moth
(Oleander Moth) caterpillars. Landscape companies
spray chemicals or use bt on these plants to prevent
this from happening.

Yellow , looks rotten, ...
... and is delicious!
Maypop fruit is a delicious fruit, related to the
passionfruit that is used by the food industry.
(Passiflora edulis is a very tender vine does not
overwinter in colder climates.) Maypop, Passiflora
incarnata, bears a fruit which is called (one guess)
maypop.
It has been said that maypop is called maypop
because the plants 'pop' out of the ground in 'May'. It
is also said that it is called maypop because when
children throw the fruit at each other, it 'may pop' or it
may not. No matter where the name originates, it is a
delicious snack!
Maypop has a beautiful flower. Lightly scented, it is a
flower of imagination; intricate and dainty. Follow the
link below to see photos of maypop blooms.
In stock at Shady Oak is maypop, Passiflora incarnata,
available in starter size plants for $2 each.
Other passionvines available are Blue passionvine (P.
caruela) and Lavender Lady passionvine in four inch
pots for $3 each.
