Egg, Caterpillar, and Chrysalis Swap

American Lady Caterpillar

The American Painted Lady is one of the caterpillars which will be around the area during the festival.
Wander to see if you can find one in the field at the farm on April 14!

Their host plant is a weed. If you aren't sure which weed is cudweed, we'll show you at the farm. Dig up one and take it home if you'd like.

Red Admiral

Red Admiral Eating Fruit

Red Admiral butterflies are laying eggs on false nettle and pellitory in April. Learn to identify these two plants to search for caterpillars.

False Nettle, one of their host plants, is a choice for the plant propagation class. You can take home a cutting for it to finish rooting at your house. It is also available on our website and in our nursery at the farm.

Plant Propagation Class

Cloudless Sulphurs on Cape Honeysuckle

Take the Plant Propagation Class ($10) and take home the cuttings you chose and started on their process to becoming plants for your garden.

Cape Honeysuckle is one of the dozens of plants you can choose to take cuttings from in the plant propagation class. If you choose not to take the class, these plants are also available from our website or at our nursery at the farm.

Butterfly Vivarium

Queen Caterpillar

Make your own butterfly vivarium. Put together a plant and caterpillar (Queen is in the photo above) in an enclosed temporary habitat to take home. Watch the caterpillar turn into a chrysalis and the adult butterfly emerge! Then plant your plant into your garden to attract and grow more butterflies. You will have a choice of several butterfly species. $15

Free Plant Swap (only vendors can sell plants)

Batface Flower, Butterfly Nectar Plant

Bring your plants to swap or give away. Then visit our plant vendors and purchase more plants!

If you purchase a host plant for a species of butterfly in the exhibit, you can take your plant into the exhibit ($2) and we will encourage butterflies to lay eggs on your host plant.

The plant pictured here, batface, is one of the dozens of choices of plants from which you can take cuttings in the plant propagation class.

Free Butterfly and Moth Swap

Black Swallowtail

Do you have extra butterfly or moth eggs, caterpillars, and/or chrysalises you'd like to trade or give away? If you are a Florida resident, bring them to the festival!

The Critter Swap will be the place to go. Trades or give-aways only! These are not to be sold at the festival.

If you cannot find the species you would like to swap for, ask to see if we have it at the farm. We will have eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, and adult butterflies available for purchase at the festival.
