Susan Ridley of Hendry Estate Wines in Napa will be here to share some of their award winning bottles. Susan became a partner in the Hendry Winery in 1995. The small estate winery, located in the south-western Napa Valley, is divided into 50 blocks, each of which represents its own "mini-terroir" system. Susan will be here to tell more about the rich history of the vineyard and the unique approaches the winery takes to viticulture, cloning, and winemaking. We hope you'll join us.

Are You a Silly American?

In 2004 a little movie called Sideways put a big dent in the domestic consumption of merlot wine.

One of the characters in the movie spouted a line "I'm not drinking any f----ing merlot!

Because of this line, many Americans thought that drinking merlot was like drinking white zinfandel.

This caused  the American consumption of merlot to greatly fall.

So many times, in our own store, a customer will come in looking for a bottle of red wine.  Many times we mention one of our favorite varieties, yes you guessed it, merlot. The customer will usually say that they don't like merlot.  When we ask them why, they can never really tell us why.

 To set the record straight:

Merlot is a wonderful grape because it's medium bodied and pairs well with so many different types of food such as salmon, shrimp, mushroom sauces, lamb and tender beef.

Just rembember, this was just a silly line in a movie.

Merlot is a grape that you do not need to feel embarresed about buying or drinking!

 Sincerely,
