Bouchaine Winery
& ties to Delaware
Gerret and Tatiana Copeland, residents of Wilmington Delaware and long time admirers of the wines of Burgundy, purchased a winery from Beringer and established Bouchaine Vineyards. A massive renovation was completed in 1995 updating the winemaking facility with new technology and refurbishing the entire facility in a rustic style that garnered numerous awards from historic and architectural organizations.
Gerret Copeland began to develop his wine palate as a teenager. "Our house was always filled with good food and good wine," he remembers. "In our family, wine wasn't just part of our lifestyle, it was in our blood." His parents, Pamela and Lammot du Pont Copeland, were great collectors of fine Burgundies, enjoying a bottle from their cellar every evening. They educated their children in the French tradition, diluting a half-glass of wine with water. As the proportion of water decreased, Gerret's appreciation increased... and by the time he started college, his dining excursions always included wine.
Gerret's father, Lammot du Pont Copeland, was the 11th president of the DuPont Company. He was also a founder of the Wilmington, Delaware, chapter of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. His mother, Pamela Copeland, a noted horticulturalist, enjoyed fine wine as well and was the first woman in the U.S. invited to join the Chevaliers du Tastevin. Shortly after her husband's death, she informed her children that she hoped to live long enough to enjoy the thousands of bottles still in the cellar - and she did! |

LVMH Moët Hennessy Is a Frenchholding company and one of the world's largest luxury conglomerate. It is the parent of around 60 sub-companies that each manage a small number of prestigious brands. These daughter companies are, to a large extent, run autonomously. The group was formed after mergers brought together producer Moët et Chandon (champagne) and Hennessy (manufacturer of cognac). In 1987, they merged with fashion house Louis Vuitton to form the current group.
