MCDONOGH LOSES TWO LEGENDS
Raymond B. Oliver '40 Humble but iconic teacher-coach Ray Oliver '40 received a fitting tribute on Saturday, March 3, 2012, as hundreds returned to campus to honor his memory. Ray passed away on February 25, 2012, at his home in Towson. He was 90. Ray began his McDonogh career in 1934 at the age of 12 and graduated in 1940. He entered the Naval Academy and, upon his graduation in 1944, was immediately assigned to serve in the Pacific. In 1947, duties complete, Ray married his wife, Evelyn, and returned home to McDonogh where they raised their two children, Craig '70 and Vicky. Ray taught for 45 years.
William A. Seal Beloved former faculty member, coach, and dorm parent Bill Seal, who retired last spring from McDonogh after 39 years of dedicated service, died on March 26, 2012, from an apparent heart attack. A memorial service was held in Tagart Memorial Chapel on March 31.
During his career at McDonogh, Bill taught lower school science, upper school psychology and history, offered guidance as a dean and dorm parent, and coached JV and varsity boys soccer, JV and fresh/soph boys lacrosse, girls winter soccer, JV softball, and varsity wrestling. He was inducted into the McDonogh Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999 and received the Alumni Association's Distinguished Service Award in 2007. Bill is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and son Jon '88. CAMPAIGN AND CAMPUS UPDATE
Work has also begun on the St. John Student Center, and both buildings are expected to take 16-18 months to complete. Work will then begin on the Rosenberg Campus Green. You can see live images of construction anytime at www.mcdonogh.org/cmp/cams/. The new spaces will impact students and benefit McDonogh's fine faculty, and we are grateful to the many donors who have already supported the McDonogh Forever Campaign. We still have a way to go to reach our $75 million goal, and we hope that everyone in the community wants to be involved in building McDonogh's legacy. For details about the McDonogh Forever Campaign, visit the campaign website or contact Christine Krause, director of major gifts, at 410-581-4735 or ckrause@mcdonogh.org. |

TREASURES FROM THE ARCHIVES
Many thanks to Special Projects Coordinator Cindy Green for digitizing these three videos from our archives. The first video, narrated by Lowell Thomas, was shot in 1945 as propaganda to be shown in foreign embassies to highlight our fabulous school. The second video from 1960, narrated by Arnold Wilkes, is believed to have been used for admissions purposes, as was the third video from 1973, the 100th anniversary of the founding of McDonogh.

THE MCDONOGH FUND UPDATE
Your Support is Greatly Appreciated It has been a very busy winter and spring for The McDonogh Fund. As of April 19, over $1.4M in cash and pledges has been raised towards the $1.6M goal for 2011-2012. McDonogh alumni have been very loyal and generous with their time and financial support this year. Over 51 percent of the total raised has come from alumni donors, and we thank you for your support. If you have not yet given to The McDonogh Fund this year, we hope you will consider a gift by June 30, 2012, to be counted towards your class participation. Make your gift now.
Calling All Young Alumni: Classes of 1992-2011
This year, thanks to Henry A. Rosenberg, Jr. '48, you can make your gift go even further for McDonogh. For any alumnus/a who did not make a gift to The McDonogh Fund last year, your gift this year will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Mr. Rosenberg. Gave last year? Increase your gift, and the increased portion will be matched. It's a win for you and a win for McDonogh. Make your gift towards The Henry A. Rosenberg, Jr. '48 Young Alumni Challenge.
