Saturday highlights: Five alumni games, headmaster's remarks and Campus Master Plan sneak peek, and the Family Crab Feast and Picnic.  Classes ending in 0 and 5 will be celebrating individual class parties in the evening.

For more details and to register, please visit www.mcdonogh.org, then go to the Alumni page.  The registration deadline for advance ticket prices is April 23.
BIKES FOR GHANA
Join Students in Helping a Good Cause

emmanuel logo We invite alumni to join "Mission Emmanuel," a student-driven effort to send a 20' shipping container filled with donated bicycles to Ghana to give children there the gift of mobility.

Emmanuel Yeboah, who was born with one leg, rode his bike across Ghana to prove to Ghanaian society that the physically challenged are quite able. Afterward, he became an international hero, and his story was the subject of an Oprah Winfrey-narrated documentary "Emmanuel's Gift." Yeboah spoke at McDonogh last October. Four seniors were so moved that they decided to take action. Their determined efforts have grown into "Mission Emmanuel."

Yeboah visited McDonogh again on Friday, February 26 to participate in campus-wide activities to kick-off "Mission Emmanuel." The day's events received media attention from The Sun, The Owings Mills Times, and all four Baltimore television stations. Read more and view links of the news coverage.

As alumni, we invite you to join in this effort by donating used bicycles (please no tricycles). You may drop them off at Race Pace in Owings Mills (9930 Reisterstown Road in the St. Thomas Shopping Center) until March 10 or all day on Thursday, March 11 on the Lower School blacktop surface of the playground near the kindergarten.  Join us, won't you?
ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
James Egan '68 on campus March 11

James Egan Award-winning writer and producer James Egan '68 (known as "Mike" during his six years at McDonogh) will be on campus Thursday, March 11 as part of the school's Character in Action initiative.

With values instilled in him at McDonogh, Egan is making a difference and inspiring others to do the same.  His 2007 documentary "Angels in the Dust" won the Amnesty International Award and several other documentary honors for social justice.  The film chronicles the efforts of one woman and her family to house and educate more than 500 African children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic.

James hopes to spread his message to McDonogh students, parents, and alumni that yes, one person can make a difference.  View a clip of "Angels in the Dust" at www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFRnZjdYdKo.

We hope you will join us on Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in the Kiplinger (Upper School) Library for a presentation, discussion, and refreshments with James. For catering purposes, we encourage you to RSVP online.

ALUMNI EXECUTIVE COUNCIL NOMINATIONS DUE APRIL 1

If you or someone you know would like to become more involved as an alumnus or alumna, consider serving on the Alumni Executive Council (AEC). The AEC is accepting nominations for directors for the 2010-2011 school year.

The AEC meets five times a year. Its purpose is to promote loyalty, interest, and support among alumni. The AEC Nominating Committee is seeking a cross-section of membership with respect to race, gender, and graduation year. We would love to have more representation from the  50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.  What better way to give back to the school? Please contact Jen Corrigan at jcorrigan@mcdonogh.org or 410-581-4772 by April 1 to nominate!
