October has been red hot. The Dow Jones Industrial Average seems to reach new highs daily, and our first annual charity event was a huge success.

 The Markets

Market Up The Dow crossed the all important 12,000 mark this month, and while the housing market continues to show weakness, the equity markets continue to push forward.

Figures released at the end of the month show that US economic growth is at the slowest pace in more than three years. While this news is certainly a concern for many investors, signs that inflation pressures may be easing came as a relief.

As we approach year's end, I caution each investor to keep an eye on their mutual fund investments. December is a popular time to for mutual funds to post both short and long-term capital gains for the year. Make sure to review your non retirement accounts prior to the end November to weigh your options.

 The Office

reception with fenway On October 18th, we hosted our first annual Paws for a Cause silent auction and charity night to benefit the Humane Society of Baltimore County. With donations from neighboring businesses and the generosity of those who attended, we exceeded our goal of raising $2,500 to purchase dental equipment for the Humane Society?s Spay/Neuter Center. The dental equipment has been ordered, and those animals in need will soon have shiny healthy teeth. Make sure to visit the Humane Society to see all of the bright smiles.

 The Family

Heidi celebrated her 30th birthday this month. Friends and family attended a surprise party for her. While we almost spoiled the surprise on a few occasions (including guests setting off our home alarm and Heidi getting a call during dinner from ADT), we managed to pull it off. To celebrate in her own way, Heidi has scheduled a date for her first skydive. Keep your fingers crossed!

 Pet Tips
Halloween Suggestions to Keep your Pet Safe

1) Keep your Halloween treats for the trick-or- treaters and away from your pets. Your cat or dog may be enticed by the smell of the candy or glisten of the wrappers, but both the candy and the wrappers can be very dangerous for them. Set your candy in a location that is difficult for them to reach.

2) If you have a carved pumpkin and opt to use a candle to illuminate it, please keep it in an area that is difficult for your pet to reach. Pumpkins can easily be knocked over and burn your pet or start a fire.

3) While you may love dressing your pet up for the season, make sure he/she enjoys it too. Putting a costume on a pet who does not like it may cause undo stress. If you do choose to have your pet wear a costume, make sure it does not obstruct your pet's vision. This could be dangerous for them or it could make them nervous enough to bite at those coming up to pet them.

4) All but the most social pets should be kept in a separate room when you are handing out candy. They may be frightened by all of the visitors.

5) Make sure your pet has proper identification. On a night when you frequently open the door, your pet may decide that this is the ideal time to make a getaway.

Have a safe and happy Halloween for you and your entire family.
