The Markets
 

As we witnessed in June and July, the hot months of summer typically yield cool equity markets. Fear of an overheated market along with concerns for the economy lead the equity markets on a roller coaster ride.

August has broken away from what we saw earlier in the summer. The Fed has paused its increase in interest rates and a measure of stability coming out of the Middle East increased optimism in the stock market. As a result of this renewed optimism, most indices are now above their June 1st levels.

Brenna and I recently attended a financial planning conference hosted by LPL. During the conference, we sharpened our skills with LPL's technology, learned ways to improve our client service, and learned strategies to broaden our asset allocation models. We look forward to implementing the knowledge gained during the conference.

Rather than hosting a traditional "open house", we decided that we would like to create an annual event that helps our community. In October we will host Paws for a Cause - a silent auction benefiting Humane Society of Baltimore County.

As you know, Fenway has had a significant impact our lives. Because Heidi and I adopted him from a rescue, we thought it appropriate to support similar group locally. Invitations will be sent in the near future.

 

 The Family
 

I am sad to report that my baseball team failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs. As sports fans so frequently say, "There's always next year." Next year should bring brighter prospects as the core players from our team and another will join together. Next up: "Flag" Football and I will likely join a dart league.

August was much brighter for Heidi. At her art fest booth, she was able to sell some photographs and hand out the majority of her business cards.

While working at her booth last Saturday, someone approached Heidi and commented that one of her photographs looked very familiar. As it turns out, Heidi won honorable mention in the Washington Post's annual travel photo contest (the Post does not notify winners). Congratulations, Heid!
