Delia Hardie accepts her Treasured Volunteer award.

In recognition of amazingly outstanding volunteer service, the board unanimously decided to bestow a very special award to one volunteer who has done so very, very much for the Visiting Pet Program.

In view of Delia Hardie's ongoing commitment, dedication and involvement, we were thrilled to acknowledge her as our Treasured Volunteer at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic.

Delia has been a volunteer since 2000. Despite the fact that Delia no longer has a pet to visit with, she has continued to be extremely active with our group.

You might not know Delia by name. She is the hardworking volunteer who takes photos at the pet evaluations. At each and every evaluation, Delia brings her own cameras, her own printers, ink &paper, the back drop, the bench... absolutely everything needed to give the best possible photo

Last year, Delia very graciously invited the VPP to store our tents, tables, and other miscellaneous VPP acquisitions in the basement of her new house. Previously, we had been using a commercial storage unit at a significant expense. Delia was also instrumental in the VPP receiving a grant that enabled us to buy a copy machine.

Following each evaluation, Delia generously serves as a mentor to new members, sharing her years of experience with our new volunteers.

It is impossible to express our most sincere thanks and appreciation for Delia's ongoing service and dedication to the Visiting Pet Program. Delia, you are one in a million and we are thrilled that you are one of us! You are truly a treasure.

    About the Visiting Pet Program

The Visiting Pet Program is an all volunteer 501 (C)(3) non-profit animal assisted therapy organization serving Orleans, Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes.

For the past 22 years, the volunteers of the VPP have lived up to their motto of "Bringing Love and Leaving Smiles" to the residents of nursing homes and hospitals.

Our literacy project, Reading to Rover, offers young readers the opportunity to practice their reading aloud skills to the gentle therapy dogs.

If you would like to make a donation to the Visiting Pet Program, please click on the button below or mail your check to 5831 S. Johnson Street, New Orleans, LA 70125.
