Greetings!

When we speak with customers about website design, we offer strategies to help them reduce their costs.

Websites are not only vehicles of internet visibility. They offer businesses structure to fine-tune business models and plans, the methods of communications with customers and the administration that supports the business.

It is, therefore, very cost-effective to think through as much of these processes before designing the whole website. For businesses that have these processes well defined, but do not have the budget to build the whole website, we recommend focusing on the home page. Build with strategy in mind. Then, as the budget allows, enhance tactically.

For businesses that need websites but do not have the processes in place, nor the time or budget to start the effort, it is recommended to still have a website. It can be a web page identifying the business, contact information and services offered. This will provide internet visibility, which nowadays is expected by customers. Customers prefer a simple website to no website at all.

Since it seems like 'all the good domains are taken', businesses should register their domain as soon possible so as not to lose the domain they would like (even if there is no website behind the domain yet.)

If you would like to discuss website strategy for your business, please feel free to contact us.
Tips from our Surefire Organization Division

SFO
Naming conventions are used in many places, from e-commerce (product and image names) to filing (business and home). Defining the right naming conventions is critical to efficiency and sanity.

Tips:

When you create (or revamp) your filing system, set up categories of files by color to more easily find what you need. Some people label their files alphabetically regardless of category. Then, they have to look through more files than necessary. When color coding categories into, for example, 'business marketing', 'business tax-related', 'family-related', 'school-related', 'pet-related', etc., much time is saved in searching and filing new papers.

When setting up directories of files, understand how your e-commerce site allows you to upload (e.g., images). Some setups are more cumbersome than others.

When carrying multiple brands on your e-commerce site, set up the product/image names with the brand name in it. This will help when searching for all products in the brand more effectively. Maintenance of inventory becomes easier to process.

When you create your organizational system, create a few samples in a few different categories so that you can see how your methodology really works before committing to it.
