Dear Friends, Welcome to summer at CMEE! There are loads of activities at the Museum in July, which is why this month's E-News is jam-packed. We have a full slate of programming including morning classes, Twirligig Tuesday performances in our amphitheater (Secret Agent 23 Skidoo is kicking things off on July 6), and don't forget the CMEE "Under the Sea" Family Fair on July 24. There are also receptions and cocktail parties to help support CMEE this month. Read below or check out the sidebar for a glance at the details. Even though school just ended for this year, CMEE is already preparing for students next fall. Recently, we learned that only 38% of children in New York State have access to affordable pre-schooling. To help increase access in our community, CMEE is teaming up with Long Island Head Start to host a pre-school class in September. Thank you to Dr. Dianne Youngblood, who recently retired as Superintendant of Bridgehampton School for the initial idea of hosting a pre-school at the Museum. As you may know, it's CMEE's 5th birthday this year. Before there was a Museum, there was a "Museum without Walls," which travelled all over the East End bringing the CMEE experience to different hamlets and villages. CMEE is returning to its mobile roots with a new partnership with the Hamptons Tumblebus. Starting this month, you can have the Tumblebus bring CMEE right to your driveway with classes, parties, and more. Scroll down for more about "CMEE-To-You"! Speaking of birthdays, don't miss Henry the Rabbit's 3rd Birthday next month! Have a happy 4th of July! Thank you for your support of CMEE. We hope to see you at the Museum soon!
Sincerely,
Stephen Long Executive Director |

This month's book is My Garden, the newest picture book by noted children's author, Kevin Henkes. The book will be read IN CMEE's GARDEN. Advance reservations are required. Free to Members; $9 for Non-Members, includes admission. |

CMEE at the PECONIC LAND TRUST GALA - AUGUST 1
No sitter? No worries! CMEE is providing engaging and fun programming especially for kids at the Peconic Land Trust's gala "Through Farms and Fields" Country Supper on August 1! "Through Farms and Fields" celebrates the local bounty of the East End and supports the Peconic Land Trust's efforts to conserve Long Island's working farms, natural lands, and heritage for our communities now and in the future. The evening will be held at the home of the Salm family at the Port of Missing Men, a historic hunting estate overlooking Scallop Pond in Southampton, and will feature live music and dancing from The Annie Morgan Band, plus a Live & Silent Auction and fabulous local food. CMEE is committed to providing opportunities for entire families to spend time together and we're delighted to work with such a worthy sister organization!

GIVING KIDS A "HEAD START" AT CMEE
CMEE is delighted to collaborate with Long Island Head Start to increase the number of low-income families who can access pre-school education. CMEE plans to host a class of fifteen students at the Museum starting this September. The tactile environments at CMEE will provide Head Start students with the opportunity to use a diverse range of learning styles, such as role playing and hands-on learning, and gain important skills such as sequencing, observation, deductive-reasoning, and problem-solving. |
CMEE's TEACHER ADVISORY MEETINGS |
CMEE went to school - make that a number of schools - over the past several months to get advice from teachers about the Museum's educational programs. CMEE's educators learned that due to budget cuts, many schools have fewer resources for field trips. In response, CMEE is working more closely with teachers to bring hands-on learning from the Museum into the classroom. Incorporating imaginative play and kinesthetic learning, CMEE educators are designing these educational outreach programs to reach a wide range of grade levels. For example, by role playing as early residents of the East End, local children can gain a better sense of our community's history. CMEE looks forward to reporting back on the pilot phase of this outreach programming.

Greetings! Henry the Rabbit, here. I have great news! There's a new play set in our back yard - two slides, rope ladders, a tree house fort with a door (what a great hutch this would make...) and more! I discovered it the other day on my garden outing. You'll find it just on the other side of the Amphitheater, outside of the art studio. See you there? In the meantime, I'll be enjoying the air conditioning! Oh, and by the way, I want to thank Dr. Browning in Sag Harbor for my complimentary mani-pedi! I feel so much better with my nails cut short.
