Children's Museum of the East End - E-Newsletter April 2010
Dear Friends,

Spring is finally here and if you feel like doing a cartwheel or somersault to celebrate, CMEE is the place to be! This week, the Hamptons Tumblebus is at the Museum, ready for some tumbling and gymnastics fun. See below for details!  While you're here, stop by one of our "drop in" art classes. There's a different project each day at 10am.  And join us for our weekly Panini Lunch in the Lobby tomorrow beginning at 11:30am.

Thanks to everyone who celebrated the start of spring at our Mad Hatter Tea Party last weekend - it was an 'egg-cellent' start to the new season! We have more fun in store for April, including a new session of classes and workshops beginning this Monday, April 5.

April marks CMEE's 'half-birthday'! We're celebrating our 5th birthday in just six months. To help get ready for this anniversary, we are delighted to announce the birthdays of our young members in our monthly E-newsletters! If you are a member and want your child's birthday included, please contact CMEE. Scroll down to see our April birthday celebrators!

Summer will be here in a flash and CMEE is excited to announce our line up of classes, special events, amphitheater performances, and "Summer Club." Read on for details.

We hope to see you this Friday night at our Pizza and Pajama Night at 6pm and at two special "Get Creative" Workshops in April. See the sidebar for details on these events.

Sincerely,

Stephen Long
Executive Director

Something to Sing About!
New Family Literacy Initiative

cantemos

CMEE and the Sandpiper Music Together Program are collaborating on a new Family Literacy Program at the Museum. Recently launched, "Cantemos Juntos" (We Sing Together") is an eight week semester of once a week classes that enhances the parenting, literacy and language skills of Spanish speaking parents and their children up to age four. Using CMEE's exhibits as a platform, the class incorporates classic early childhood literature in translation, well-known childhood songs from Central and South America, and play activities designed around the music and reading to promote parents and children's familiarity with art and literature. The class instructors also coach parents in reading to their children and promote family use of community institutions such as CMEE, the South Fork Natural History Museum and public libraries across the East End. The class is being taught by Barbara Blaisdell, former Sag Harbor Elementary School teacher and Director of the Sandpiper Music Together, Leah Oppenheimer.

The classes are free to families with infants and toddlers, and participating families take home a new book every week, receive a CD to play, and receive free membership to CMEE.
